A Message from the CEO... |

As she closed the book of her old life
Sighing relief as she finally let go
She carved a path to a new beginning
Writing a new chapter

This feels very appropriate for a new year.
How do we untether the old perspectives and responsibilities from our past and move forward?
I can look at a lot of different “episodes” in my life - family hospice situations, fostering pets from friends, holiday obligations, races/marathons … and whether they were sad or great or promises or physically challenging … after they were completed -- life was different.
These situations represented huge changes/milestones in my life and for a while, post event - the new reality was uncomfortable.

2021 was a record year once again for our Maternity Center!
We delivered 568 babies during the past year at our Clarion campus, which is another record-breaking year for our hospital.
These families travelled from 61 different cities and towns to deliver their babies at our hospital - some from as far away as Albert Lea, MN!
We are beyond proud of our Maternity Center staff - providers, nurses, specialists, and more - for the one-on-one personal care that they provide to make your birth experience the best around! T

We're Expanding in Webster City! |
|
We continue to see exciting progress at our new Webster City location.
The construction crews have been finishing up the exterior as well as putting up drywall on the interior. Ductwork and electrical are finishing up, and painting on the interior will be starting soon. We anticipate being able to see patients within the next few months.

Provider Highlight - Dr. Lynn Nelson |
|
|
|
|
Lynn Nelson, MD, is pleased to offer his expert services at our hospital and clinic locations in Belmond, Clarion, Garner, Webster City, and Fort Dodge.
Dr. Nelson specializes in spinal surgery and has built an extensive practice in Central Iowa for the treatment of cervical (neck) and lumbar (lower back) injuries and conditions which include disk herniations, vertebral misalignments, spinal trauma, myelopathy and radiculopathy.
When asked about his medical philosophy, Dr. Nelson said,
“Always try to do the right thing for
each patient as he/she is someone’s daughter/son/husband/wife.”

New Ambulance at ISH Belmond campus |

A new ambulance was recently put into service at our ISH Belmond location.
This purchase was made possible by the The Marjorie E. Gruis Trust. This trust donated $500,000 to the Belmond Hospital Foundation back in December 2018 to purchase 2 new ambulances over 7 years. This is the first of those 2 ambulances.
The new ambulance is a significant upgrade. One major improvement for patient comfort is a liquid suspension system that makes for a smoother ride in the back of the ambulance. A back-saving improvement for the crew is a hydraulic lift system that allows quick and easy exchange of large oxygen bottles. With the recent increase in the number of COVID patients, they are using a lot more oxygen while transporting patients and have to change out those bottles more frequently. The interior of the patient compartment has everything they need to provide patient care en route to a hospital. When Karla, one of the EMTs looked inside the ambulance,
she stated “It looks like a hospital room back here!”
This isn’t the first time the Gruis family has supported the Belmond Ambulance Service. Back in 1973, Mrs. Harmke B. Gruis (Marjorie’s mother) also
donated money to the Belmond service to purchase two new ambulances.

The Belmond Ambulance Service is very appreciative of the Gruis family’s generosity. They couldn’t do what they do without the ambulances and all of the equipment that they contain. They are very fortunate and forever grateful!
