Internship Opportunity Organized by the Paris Bar for Both English and French Speaking Lawyers!

Since 1991, the Paris Bar organizes a unique training program for young French speaking lawyers, in partnership with the Ecole de Formation professionnelle des Barreaux du ressort de la cour d'appel de Paris (EFB).  The "Stage International" brings together young French speaking lawyers from all over the world for a two-month theoretical and practical training.  Since 2015, the Paris Bar also organizes a second version of the program for English speaking lawyers called the "International Program".

Both programs are organized in cooperation with foreign bar associations and are supported by some French Embassies abroad. The Stage International will take place from October to November 2023 (8 weeks).  The International Program will take place in May and June 2023 (exact dates to be confirmed by the Paris Bar).

The internship offers participants an introduction to the French legal system.  In the first month of the Stage International the foreign lawyers will participate in programs of the “Ecole de Formation du Barreau” to be able to understand the French legal system and its procedures.  Participants are able to discover the daily routine of the Palais de Justice by attending hearings, visiting the major French institutions and getting an insight of European law.  In the second month, the foreign lawyers will have the opportunity to experience Parisian legal life and will intern in a Parisian Law Firm.

If you are interested in participating, please contact Europe Committee Chair Susanne Leone at sleone@leonezhgun.com for more information.

ILS Europe Committee Member Rustu Cenk Damgacioglu Attends Istanbul Bar Foreign Relations Center Meeting on April 13, 2023 in Istanbul!

The photo above was taken during a meeting of the Istanbul Bar's Foreign Relations Center, on April 13th, 2023, in Istanbul, Turkey. The President of the Istanbul Bar, Ms. Filiz SARAC is in the front row, 5th from left. One of our ILS members and member of the ILS Europe Committee, Mr. Rustu Cenk Damgacioglu, is in the middle back, in a gray suit.

In Turkey, the Legal Practitioner's Act (1969) has a likelihood to be amended in the coming years. Accordingly, the Istanbul Bar is considering whether a review of the regulation of the legal profession around the world may be a sound approach. Under the current regulations in Turkey, there is not a bar exam but there is a compulsory one-year internship. Attorney specialization and the usage of social media by attorneys are not specifically regulated, while attorney advertisement is banned. During the meeting in Istanbul on April 13th, 2023, Mr. Damgacioglu responded to questions, in summary stating that the regulation of the legal profession in Florida has specific rules, as well as settled case law, in areas such as the bar exam, attorney specialization, attorney advertisement and the usage of the social media by attorneys. During the meeting, the issue of artificial intelligence also came up. Mr. Damgacioglu responded that this area is also under development in Florida.

Mr. Damgacioglu is a member of both the Florida Bar (2008) and the Istanbul Bar (2016). He serves in foreign related committees in both bars. Mr. Damgacioglu received his J.D. from Florida International University College of Law (inaugural class). His office is in Istanbul, Turkey, and he practices in the areas of inheritance law and trusts.
