Dear ILS Members and Friends,
It’s hard to believe that our Executive Council Annual Meeting is next week on Friday, June 21 at 10 am, during the Florida Bar Annual Convention in Orlando at the Hilton Bonnett Creek. We’re also having the Chair’s Celebration at Harry’s Lounge next door at the Waldorf Astoria on Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 pm. We will be celebrating our Section’s success this past year and transitioning our Section’s leadership to our Chair Elect, Ana Barton, our other officers and the Executive Council members. More details on these important events and registration are below. All Section members are encouraged to attend. We’re looking forward to welcoming and celebrating with you!
Committee Chairs, please remember to submit your Committee Reports for the Executive Council Annual Meeting by June 12 to Elizabeth (Liz) Hockensmith at ehockensmith@floridabar.org.
Our Section was very busy last week as we continue to elevate our Global Leadership by engaging, supporting and collaborating with various international organizations. I had the pleasure of meeting with delegates from the Spanish Confederation de Empresarios de Ferrolterra and the Mexican Bar. We had a very productive discussion on promoting trade, investment and collaboration between Spain, Florida and Mexico.
I also had the privilege of attending the State of the Ports Luncheon organized by the World Trade Center Miami, which featured Miami-Dade County Mayor, Daniella Levine Cava, the Director and CEO of the Miami International Airport (MIA), Ralph Cutie, and the Director and CEO of PortMiami, Hydie Webb. MIA is on pace to have an impressive 58 million passengers this year. And Miami continues to be the cruise capital of the world.
Finally, ILS Past Chair, James Meyer, invited several ILS Leaders to attend the AYITI Signature Dinner at the studio gallery of renowned Haitian artist, Edouard Duval-Carrie. We also heard an inspiring keynote and the life journey from former Miami-Dade Commissioner, Jean Monestime. It was a wonderful evening filled with spectacular art, food, culture and community. The event was driven by a great cause to raise awareness and funds for the AYITI Community Trust whose mission is to support sustainable development and innovation in Haiti in the areas of civic education, environment and entrepreneurship. I encourage you to learn more and consider supporting them by visiting ayiticommunitytrust.org.
Sensèman,

If you are reading the Gazette, chances are that you are a practitioner or a student with an interest in International Law, one of the most wide-ranging, exciting and challenging legal specialties. Everyone in our field knows how crucial it is to stay on top of diverse and evolving national legal regimes, and at the same time, the difficulty of keeping meticulously up-to-date on developments around the world.
The International Law Section (ILS) of The Florida Bar is here to help you, the practitioner, navigate both the everyday and big-picture challenges of our field. Our Section is your forum to share knowledge and best practices, and to meet and mingle with peers in professional collaborations that can only enhance your grasp of the specialty and your standing among clients and peers.
Let ILS membership assist you in developing a thriving international practice through peer network development that includes important shared learnings and reciprocal referrals of clients and casework.
If your practice transcends borders, join us in making this the authoritative, go-to forum for Florida and the gateway to the region for anyone practicing International Law. Our Section is open to lawyers from other states and countries, full-time faculty at U.S. law schools, and full-time U.S. law students, all of whom may participate as associate members.
