ILS Chair's News & Notes

Dear ILS,

Have you read the Spring 2024 ILQ? The playful theme of this edition, entitled "This or That," features a series of written debates that either take opposing viewpoints on a legal issue, explore two sides of a coin, or present alternative paths to reaching a similar result.

The work of ILS members Lyubov Zeldis and Richard Junnier focusing on the war in Israel and Gaza is particularly poignant. One author makes the case for Israel’s right of self-defense in response to October 7th, and the other argues that Israel’s widespread and indiscriminate response violates international humanitarian law. These are incredibly tough and polarizing issues to address, but I assure you that reading these articles will challenge your own perspectives or, at the very least, help you better understand both sides.

Please scroll down and take a moment to read the Q&A with the authors, who reflect and share on the personal experience of writing these articles. I’d also like to give special recognition to ILQ Editor Jeff Hagen, who worked hard to marshal a balanced and informative discussion.

Have a great week!

Ana M. Barton, Esq.
