The International Law Section Gazette

Section News

ILS Chair's News & Notes

Dear ILS,

I hope everyone enjoyed some time off this week to celebrate the Fourth of July and revel in the sunshine and fireworks! For our history buffs and those who enjoy a little trivia, what is the date that Founding Father John Adams believed should have been celebrated as our nation’s date of independence? (The answer is further below.)

This week we are dedicating the Gazette to highlighting one of our own shining stars, Jennifer Mosquera from Sequor Law. At our Annual Meeting in June, she was presented with the “110% Executive Council Member” Award in recognition of her many contributions to the ILS. She’s a regular on the iLaw Steering Committee and can be found directing student volunteers, supervising scoring during the ILS’ Vis Pre-Moot Competition, and editing the International Law Quarterly, all on top of attending ILS events throughout the year. Please join me in recognizing and thanking Jennifer for her incredible commitment to the ILS – we are all richer for it!

Please note that this week is the deadline for submitting a statement of interest to our International Law Quarterly co-editors Jeff Hagen and Jennifer Mosquera for articles to be included in the Fall 2024 edition. See below for more details.

Have a great week!

*July 4th trivia answer: John Adams believed July 2nd should have been the day for celebrating the nation’s independence, as that is the day the Continental Congress voted for independence in 1776. While the Declaration of Independence was dated and adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4th, the majority of the members of Congress did not sign the document for several weeks.
