The Hoofbeat: June 2021
Summer Camp at Hearts
Summer Camp at Hearts offers a safe and integrated horse and ranch experience for children ages 6-10, with or without special needs. General registration runs through Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation. This year, all of Hearts' camp sessions sold out in 2 hours!

This unique summer learning experience includes learning: horsemanship skills; how to take care of your horse; horse science - learn the parts of a horse and what makes each horse unique; horse art projects; unmounted horse activities - get to know your horse and the power of non-verbal communication; horse herd observation - how it relates to peer development; three 1-hour riding lessons with a certified riding instructor.

We are grateful to all of our volunteers, camp counselors, and camp directors for making this program possible and so much fun for the kids! You guys rock!
Minis on the Move
Our Minis are on the move again this summer, visiting the Elings Park summer camps during eight of their weekly session. Summer campers have enjoyed learning about horses, brushing Vinnie and Pippa, and walking them in the softball field.

Unlike last year, Hearts is unable to make house-calls with the minis this summer.

However, if you are a fellow nonprofit organization and feel your program or participants would benefit from a visit with Vinnie and Pippa, please contact us!

We'd love to set that up for you, and Vinnie and Pippa would LOVE the extra attention.
Vinnie & Pippa are sponsored through the generosity of Ginni Dreier.
Make a Difference - Become a Volunteer!
"I came for the horses, but I stayed for the people."

If you're interested in contributing your talents to a great cause, we welcome you to join us! We are looking for dedicated volunteers who are willing to commit to a weekly 2-hour or 4-hour shift.

We currently have spaces available for Lesson Volunteers. Without these folks, our daily lessons would not be possible. You play an integral part in our team. As a Lesson Volunteer, you get to work alongside our amazing participants and our horses - the best of both worlds!

(Previous horse experience is a plus, but not necessary!)
