Computing & Cyber Security News

Collaborative Research: Privacy Preserving Tutoring System for Health Education of Low Literacy Hispanic Populations project represents a breakthrough accomplishment for the University.

Intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) emulate human tutors on specific topics by using constructivist approaches to teaching, that monitor user progress, ask challenging questions, elicit deep explanations and provide feedback. Despite high incidence rates, few interventions have been developed to specifically address supportive care needs among Hispanic women with breast cancer.

A&M-San Antonio College of Business Assistant Professor Dr. Zechun Cao, from the Department of Computing and Cyber Security, will serve as project lead at A&M-San Antonio for a collaborative $600,000 National Science Foundation grant (plus $10,000 for a Bootcamp grant) to create a Privacy-Preserving Tutoring System for Health Education of Low Literacy Hispanic Populations.

This project will identify the factors impacting health information systems (HIS) accessibility by Hispanic women and providing an innovative approach to facilitate access and utilization of HIS. This multi-institution collaborative project will include a highly-interdisciplinary research team having expertise in NLP, computational linguistics, ITSs and privacy preservation.
