Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Newsletter

Volume 40, May 2024

A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Friends,

Last year we gave honor to our Blessed Mother by establishing a May altar in the bride’s room. You responded beautifully by bringing arrangements of flowers from your gardens. I am happy to inform you that we will be adopting the same practice this year. We also will have a book for you to write your intentions and prayers. The room will be open throughout the week for you to stop by and spend some quiet time. May is traditionally a month that we set aside in honor of Mary. How grateful we are for her powerful intercession.

May our Lord bless you all with His peace and joy.

Fr. Kevin Kavanagh

FROM THE OFFICE

FUN FOR FATHER!

FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament returns on Friday, May 3rd from the end of 8:00 a.m. Mass through Benediction at 8:00 p.m. Come and spend a Holy Hour with the Lord. We need two adorers present at all times the Eucharist is exposed. Please sign up at this link HERE.

I COME TO ADORATION/EXPOSITION BECAUSE...

"I come to adoration because Jesus is my Home. Jesus is my shelter in all the trials of life and because of this I am drawn to Jesus in the Eucharist and Adoration because this is the time when Heaven is brought to Earth. During Adoration I am more deeply connected to the Lord and all my loved ones that have gone before me because I know during this time I am doing exactly what my loved ones in Heaven are, which is adoring and worshipping Jesus. If you miss your loved ones, come to Adoration, they are there!"

- M.L.R.M.

"I enjoy it and to pray." - T.W.

ST. VINCENT de PAUL

I want to say a special thank you to all the folks who so graciously give of their time to help with the food distribution every month. The weather was absolutely miserable in January, February and March and yet you came out and helped! You suffered through frozen fingers while repacking food, shivered while loading food in the cars and smiled through it all! Needless to say, April was a welcome relief! The sun was out, and the daffodils reminded us of our renewed lives in the risen Christ!

Last month at the distribution, we served 80 families for a total of 179 people. 17 of those families included children and of the 179 people served 74 were senior citizens.

Also, last month you made 780 sandwiches. 20 sandwiches were delivered following the Saturday evening Mass to the Impact Station here in Marysville. On the Monday after the collection, 760 sandwiches were delivered to Columbus and split between three different ministries: the Back Door Ministry at the Cathedral, St. Lawrence Haven (a St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen on Broad St.) and the Veterans Center at Voice of America. Your generosity is much appreciated!

If you are cleaning out closets this spring, please remember to consider donating items to The Second Chances Thrift Store. When you volunteer at the store or donate items, St. Vincent de Paul earns gift cards. Those cards are given to our neighbors in need so they can go to the store and shop for free! Check out their website HERE for information on volunteering with them or for donating items.

UPCOMING EVENTS

  • Saturday, May 11th and Sunday, May 12th - Bologna sandwich collection weekend. Please place sandwiches in coolers in entryway.

  • Monday, May 13th - Monthly St. Vincent de Paul meeting, PLC room 16, 7:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, May 16th - Fresh Produce Distribution in the parking lot in front of the Parish Life Center. Repackaging of food begins at 8:30 a.m. with distribution from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

For further information about The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, please email kakirk56@outlook.com or call 380-235-1102.

Kavanagh invites all High School and College Graduates to celebrate their graduation at the Annual Graduation Mass being held Sunday, May 12th at 9:00 a.m. Following the Mass, the Knights of Columbus will sponsor a breakfast for graduates and their families. If you have not received an invitation, and wish to attend, please call the parish office by Friday, May 3rd in order to be included in the program. Join us in the Parish Life Center (to line up) 30 minutes prior to Mass and bring your cap and gown!

Please contact Theresa in the parish office with questions.

NATIONAL EUCHARIST PILGRIMAGE

All are invited to join Bishop Earl K. Fernandes, the faithful from the Diocese of Columbus, and the pilgrims from The National Eucharistic Revival for a weeklong Eucharistic procession from June 24th to 30th through the Diocese of Columbus, while on pilgrimage to the National Eucharistic Congress. Stops along the way will be: St. Joseph, Somerset; St. Francis de Sales, Newark; Seton Parish, Pickerington; Christ the King, Columbus; St. Charles Preparatory School, Columbus; St. Paul the Apostle, Westerville; St. Joseph Cathedral, Columbus.

To register for these joyous events visit: https://columbuscatholic.org/revival.

There are four routes traveling across the country to the National Eucharistic Congress, and our Diocese is on the route named after St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint to be canonized by the Catholic Church. A lifelong protestant, the young mother and widow was drawn to the Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. St. Elizabeth Ann Seton opened the first free Catholic school for girls in America in 1810. Her work laid the foundation for what is now the parochial school system.

Leaving from New Haven, Connecticut, the eastern arm of the Pilgrimage will begin near the Atlantic coast, journey through our nation’s oldest diocese (the Archdiocese of Baltimore), and across the Appalachian Mountains. The Seton Route will be punctuated by many meaningful stops. Pilgrims will visit holy sites, embrace the sacraments daily, and publicly proclaim Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist as they accompany him on his way to the 10th National Eucharistic Congress. Make your plans now to meet up with this historic Pilgrimage!

A special thank you to all of the parishes and schools serving as host locations for these historic events.

For more information on the National Eucharistic Revival please visit their website HERE.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!

PARISH GOLF OUTING - NEW COORDINATOR NEEDED

The Parish Life Committee and Hospitality Crew wishes to thank Tiffany Wood for her years of leadership in coordinating the annual Parish Golf Outing. Due to a new endeavor, she had to step down from this role. Hence, the committee is looking for another parishioner to help lead this event - usually held towards the latter part of summer (August through early September). The primary responsibility entails coordinating with local golf courses to see who can accommodate our parish golfers and their guests. If you have experience in this type of activity or if you wish to try out something new to help our parish, please contact the parish office. If no one steps up to help with this activity, we may have to cancel the parish golf outing this year and potentially during future years as well. Thank you!
