From the Pastor

Greetings in the name of Jesus to my new church family!

Thank you so much for the warm and generous welcome I have received from so many of your incredible leaders and staff since I arrived in Naples on June 15. I am so appreciative to Pastor Nancy and John and the leaders of our church who did so much to prepare the beautiful parsonage for my arrival. I do hope you will come and visit me in my home so you can see the fruits of all their hard labor and the congregation’s generosity! My cell number is 954-873-7825 and my email is: Please feel free to call me or text me. I’d love to get together for coffee (either in my office or elsewhere) or tea (being English, I’ve already discovered Brambles!) or lunch or dinner or visit me at the parsonage or gather a group of your friends so we might visit together at a place of your choosing. I want to get to know each of you and hear your stories and your thoughts about First Church!

I hope you realize what an awesome church staff and lay leadership team we have! A special thank you to Pastor Scott who has held down the fort since Pastor Nancy moved. I’ve listened to several of his sermons and he’s a great preacher and pastoral leader, as I’m sure you know! I’m also grateful to Jamie Dandridge who has done so much behind the scenes to ensure a smooth pastoral transition. With Alicia in the preschool and Karen leading our music ministry we have a great staff team. A special thank you to Norine Templeton and Gwen Pleban who helped me unpack my kitchen and to Pam Kennedy, Tom and Karen Bach and Al Johnson with whom I’ve already had a chance to connect. Such terrific leaders one and all! Several of our church leaders and staff were able to meet with our District Superintendent, Debbie Allen, and the SW district congregational vitality specialist, Lynn Ball, on Tuesday morning!

On Sunday I will be sharing some of my story in the sermon so you can have a chance to get to know me a little better. I’ll be preaching from Luke 5:1-11 and inviting each of us to hear God’s call to put out into deep water, let down our nets and join in Jesus’ great adventure that he has in store for First Church. Come worship with us in-person or online at I’d love to meet you!

With the love of Christ,

Pastor Sara

Bible Study - Wednesdays at 10:30 beginning July 10, 2024

Nearly everyone has heard of the Ten Commandments, the list of "thou-shalt-nots" found in the Bible. Jesus saw these commandments not as onerous burdens, but as guideposts to help us experience a good and beautiful life. Come join us for a six-week study in unpacking how Jesus reinterpreted them, and showed how every thou-shalt-not was intended to point to a life-giving "thou shalt." Sign up at the Welcome Station or by calling the church office. Cost of the book is $15.

Backpack Drive for Grace Place Children & Families - Complete

Thank you to all who contributed money and time to assemble backpacks for the annual backpack collection for the children (grades K-12) participating in the grace place programs. Your efforts are appreciated and will help the children with a great start for the school year.

Altar Flower Ministry

This week's altar flowers are dedicated for Pastor Sara from her church family to welcome her to FUMC of Naples.

Every week, you have the opportunity to donate altar flowers for our Sunday worship and dedicate them to the memory of someone who was special to you or to honor someone who presently needs to be recognized! The cost is $40. Purchase and dedication can be arranged by signing up in the church lobby or by sending an email to Jaimie Dandridge at Then you can either pick up your flowers after church or donate them for us to take to organizations in our community, bringing a ray of sunshine to workers and volunteers.

Welcome Reception for Pastor Sara will be held in Barton Hall immediately following our service. All are invited to attend.

Tell Your Friends and Neighbors

about our MDS Preschool!

You've been enjoying the beautiful pictures of our Methodist Day School children every week in our eblast. Do you know anyone with preschool-aged children who could benefit from our wonderful MDS preschool program? We are enrolling for the 2024/2025 school year for toddler, 2 year, 3 year, and VPK. We are the earliest established preschool in Naples and have some of the best teachers in Naples who nurture and care for these children. All our children tested above Kindergarten level when they graduated from VPK last year!

We Packed 460,000 Meals!!

We’re Helping to Feed Hungry People

in our Community

Congratulations to everyone who has helped pack food in our meal-packing program! Thank you for helping to feed hungry families. Food insecurity has been a major challenge for families throughout the pandemic, and especially now with food prices soaring. Help us to be Jesus’ hands and feet in the world and show the love of Christ to others by participating:

  1. Bring in non-perishable food or financial contributions earmarked for “Food Ministry” and we will deliver to either Grace Place or St. Matthew’s House for their food pantries. (Please be sure to check the expiration date before donating items.)
  2. Volunteer to come help pack food for 1.5 hours on an upcoming packing day. To sign up, contact Wendy McKee, our food-packing coordinator, at She will schedule you. It’s lots of fun!

We are available to you! Our church office is open Monday-Thursday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. After hours, for pastoral emergencies, call the office and you will hear how to contact Pastor Scott who will respond to all pastoral emergencies.

Please Pray!

Please be sure to let us know if you or a loved one are in the hospital in Naples. Pastor Scott will come visit. Also, be sure to let us know if someone you have placed on the prayer list is out of the hospital, or completed their chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Please continue to pray for people around the world who are suffering. Pray that God will bring them help and relief and will make His presence known to them through God's Spirit. Then pray for guidance on how you can help. You just may be the answer to someone's prayer!
