JUNE 2018: News, Events, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

A letter from CASA Executive Director Angela Rose

Dear Volunteers:

I can't believe it's already the middle of June! The year is flying by. As of today, we have served 692 D&N children with Court Appointed Special Advocates! We are sure to reach our goal of serving 700 children by our fiscal year end on June 30 and we are so excited about that. All of the CASA programs continue to do amazing and honorable work for the children of the Pikes Peak Region.

Earlier this week, we were pleased to swear in a new class of volunteers to join you in this work. We have six new Advocates, nine new SEPT Facilitators, and one new Life Long Links specialist. Our next volunteer class begins on July 17. If you know anyone who has considered becoming a CASA volunteer, please let them know that we have an Informational Hour on June 25. They can find more information at this link.

Please be reminded that our offices will be closed on July 4. May you all enjoy your Father's Day weekend. And as always, never hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Angela
Welcome and thank you to our newest volunteers!

On June 14, a new class of Court Appointed Special Advocates, Supervised Exchange and Parenting Time Facilitators, and Life Long Links Specialists were sworn in as officers of the court by 4th Judicial District Chief Judge William Bain. Click here to meet them now.

Looking for donations to restock the Kids' Closet!

As most of you probably know, the Kids' Closet is where CASA volunteers can find needed items  for the children they work with.

There are a few items we're running low on. If you (or anyone you know) would like to make a donation, here is specifically what we are looking for:

summer clothing (newborn - 10/12)
hoodies for fall (newborn - 10/12)
long sleeve shirts/long pants (newborn - 10/12)
pajamas (newborn - 10/12)

Please note all items donated to the Kids' Closet should be new. Anyone who wants to donate can simply drop their items off at our front desk between 8 and 5, Monday through Friday. You will receive a tax receipt.

Hard working Eagle Scouts beautify CASA building

Thanks to a young man named Kevin Nash, the front of CASA's building is now beautiful! We have needed landscaping work since we moved in to our new space last November, and it happened this past weekend.

Kevin Nash chose CASA for his Eagle Scout project and last Saturday he showed up with more than 20 volunteers. They braved the heat and made his vision for the front of our building into a reality.

We are very grateful to Kevin and are proud of the way our building looks.

Request a custom quilt for your CASA child

One of our amazing volunteers, Sandra Kyner, makes quilts for CASA children and she's inviting CASA advocates to request custom quilts for the children they serve. There are a few designs available now in the Kids' Closet at the CASA building, but you can also put in a special request.

If you'd like to request a special quilt, send your child's age, gender, favorite colors, and a theme ( Mickey Mouse, sports, princesses, etc.) to Angela Rose at angelar@casappr.org.
New types of volunteer opportunities at CASA

We are currently looking for volunteers to meet a couple of needs here in the office.
  • From time to time, when our receptionist is out of the office, we need a person who can manage our front desk area and answer calls. We're looking for volunteers who would be willing to work in this capacity for a day or a week at a time. (Complete training would be provided). To be added to the call list, please email Deb at debrac@casappr.org.

  • We're also looking for volunteers to perform basic handyman or building maintenance work. To be added to the call list, please email Deb at debrac@casappr.org.

  • We'll be holding a fun, Friday night Back to School event at The Hanger at the beginning of August! We need volunteers who can help with tips and tricks for skincare, makeup application, hair styling, etc. for both guys and girls, and guys who are interested in sharing guy fashion tips. We also need volunteers to give tips on studying, organization, reading for comprehension, test taking, etc. Contact Jill at jillc@casappr.org if you or people you know would be interested in helping.
Limited number of youth ZOO TICKETS available

We have a very limited number of YOUTH (ages 3-11) Cheyenne Mountain Zoo tickets available! We would like to apply for more tickets but cannot until all of these are used, so if you request tickets please use them in the next month. The tickets do have a $0.75 fee due at the gate for each ticket which benefits the Quarters for Conservation program. For details, please email jillc@casappr.org.
See a theater performance that benefits CASA!

CASA is honored to receive a portion of ticket sales to the Village Arts' performances of Oliver!
