JULY 2018: News, Events, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

A letter from CASA Executive Director Angela Rose

Dear CASA Volunteers:

As you know, YOU are the people on the front lines doing the important work in our community. We, as CASA staff are here to support you. But beyond supporting you, we want to make sure we include you and celebrate you!

As we've thought about how best to do this, we have come up with two events which will be held in 2019 and beyond. Please mark your calendars!

Annual Volunteer Meeting:
(Save the date: Tuesday, February 12, 2019 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm - Location TBD)

The goal of this event is to include volunteers in the broader mission of our organization. This meeting will include an update from Executive Director Angela Rose, as well as highlights from each Program Manager. There will also be time for questions and feedback.

Annual Volunteer Celebration
(Save the date: Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 11:00am to 1:00pm - Location TBD)

The goal of this event is to celebrate you, our volunteers, and all of your hard work completed over the fiscal year. We know the passion each of you brings to your role at CASA, and because you are a volunteer you do this above and beyond all of the other responsibilities in your life. We understand the depth of your commitment, and we want to show our appreciation. We have selected a date in the summer because we plan to host a BBQ where your family is welcome to join you in celebrating CASA's impact in the community.

In the past, we hosted more formal Volunteer Appreciation events as well as Christmas parties. There are a couple of reasons for the change. 1) Based on feedback received from you, we learned that the majority of our volunteers would rather have an informal event where family is welcome and 2) We re-examined our mission and goals and concluded that we'd rather focus specifically on our volunteers rather than on a holiday.

These new events kick off in 2019 which allows us time to plan budgets and agendas. During the remainder of 2018, Program Managers and Program Supervisors will periodically include you on open house invitations.

We are very excited about the new format for volunteer events! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

We are looking forward to another fantastic fiscal year with you! Thank you for your continued service to the children of the Pikes Peak Region!

Sincerely,
Angela

We are so excited to introduce Start With One, a new fundraising initiative which empowers every person in our community to make a difference in the life of an abused or neglected child. Individuals or groups that join the Start With One community commit to holding their own fundraising campaign to raise $2,000, which is the cost to provide a CASA advocate to a single child for one year. Learn more about the initiative here and feel free to pass the link on to your friends!
Request a custom quilt for your CASA child

One of our amazing volunteers, Sandra Kyner, makes quilts for CASA children and she's inviting CASA advocates to request custom quilts for the children they serve. There are a few designs available now in the Kids' Closet at the CASA building, but you can also put in a special request. If you'd like to request a special quilt, send your child's age, gender, favorite colors, and a theme ( Mickey Mouse, sports, princesses, etc.) to Angela Rose at angelar@casappr.org.
Limited number of youth ZOO TICKETS available

We have a very limited number of YOUTH (ages 3-11) Cheyenne Mountain Zoo tickets available! We would like to apply for more tickets but cannot until all of these are used, so if you request tickets please use them in the next month. The tickets do have a $0.75 fee due at the gate for each ticket which benefits the Quarters for Conservation program. For details, please email jillc@casappr.org.
Unique activity to share with your CASA families

The Musical Swings is an interactive series of musical swings that allow participants to make music with their entire bodies. Each pump of the swinger's legs create music, and each of the 10 swings activate different notes.  When used together, the swings compose a musical piece in which certain melodies emerge only through cooperation.  The result is a giant collective instrument that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, and offers a new experience in collective music making. The swings are FREE and will be in Green Mountain Falls through September. More info
