Parents and Families: Stay Connected

Congratulations, Senior Families!

Welcome to The Gatehouse — a newsletter for Marist parents and families that highlights resources available to students, provides insight into the Marist experience, and keeps you informed of important deadlines and events.

Please see the Senior Parent section below for a commencement overview and move-out information for seniors.

Residential Closing Information

Students with questions regarding the information below should contact the Housing & Residential Office via email: housing@marist.edu.

Spring 2024 Closing Information

Please be advised that all residence areas will close for the spring semester at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 10. The Dining Hall will close at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10. In order to provide the best possible study environment for final exams, guests are not permitted, and 24-hour quiet hours are now in effect. All non-graduating seniors must vacate their rooms within 24 hours of their last final exam or by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10, whichever comes first. More information is available in the parents' section of myMarist.

Summer Housing

Limited housing is available for non-graduating, undergraduate students involved in college-sponsored co-ops or internships, and students who have secured full-time employment, or live an unreasonable travel distance. Occupancy for the summer will begin Wednesday, May 15, until Friday, August 2. The cost for summer housing is $140 per week beginning May 19, 2024. Students must register for summer housing using the Summer Housing Request Form located on myMarist.

Withdrawal from Campus Housing

Current residential students who are graduating, moving off campus, transferring, or participating in Marist Abroad or a similar program, must complete the housing withdrawal form. Housing will offer a 50% refund of your housing deposit until May 31, 2024. The withdrawal form must be completed on the housing portal found in Housing and Residential Life section of myMarist.

Phase 2 Housing Process

Phase 1 of Housing Selection has concluded. Phase 2 begins in June 2024. Phase 2 refers to the placement process of resident students during the summer for the upcoming Fall semester. More information will be sent to students on how to fill out a Phase 2 request form in early May.

Below are the most common reasons to complete a Phase 2 form.

  • A student, who made a housing deposit, is not currently assigned a space.
  • A student has a current housing assignment but is interested in a different housing option.
  • A vacancy appears in the assigned room/house and the remaining students are looking to request a specific person to fill the vacancy.

Students who fall into one of the above categories, or another category that may require the attention of the Housing Office, must submit the Phase 2 Housing Selection Form through the Housing Portal when it becomes available in early May. Your student will receive information via email about Phase 2 including the dates the form is available. No email requests will be accepted.  Housing Assignments for the first process of Phase 2 will begin in early June and go until late June/early July.

If students have any clothes that they have outgrown (style-wise or in other ways), let them be a blessing to someone else!

Boxes will be placed in ALL the laundry rooms on campus, and we ask that students place any CLEAN gently used or new items in the boxes before heading home! It will help students in the packing process and give clothes a second life!

Semester Sweep Out: Join the Sweep Fleet

Community Sort Days: May 8, 9, and 10

Semester Sweep Out is a large-scale donation effort with two main goals: divert items from dumpsters and distribute resources to our local community.

There are many reasons why someone would throw something away: it's broken and they can't fix it, they are done using it, or maybe they just don't like it anymore. However, most things getting thrown away still have more life in them, and there is a community of people who are in need of these items. It is super important that we distribute donations throughout the resources in the community to help reach the most people possible.

Student volunteers will be stationed around residential areas to accept donations as students and their families are moving out of their residence halls for the summer.

This is an amazing opportunity to get directly involved in the community, build connections, and have fun while doing so. Students interested in volunteering can complete this form.

Has Your Senior Left Their Legacy?

Senior Legacy is an annual tradition at Marist aimed at educating seniors about the importance of giving back. All gifts made to Senior Legacy are directed to the Marist Fund, the College's annual giving campaign, which raises unrestricted funds that help to provide students with access to high-impact learning opportunities in and out of the classroom, offers resources to enhance their Marist journey, and touches every aspect of the student experience.
