Reminders for Residential Students

Winter Break Closing Information

Friday, December 15, 2023 – Monday, January 15, 2024


Residence areas will close for the semester on Friday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. Students should plan to vacate their room immediately after your last final exam or by Friday, December 15, at 7:00 p.m., whichever comes first. Residence halls reopen on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.


24 Hour Quiet hours begins at 10:00 p.m., Sunday, December 3. Guests will not be permitted beginning Sunday December 3, 2023, through January 18, 2024.


Students can find additional information about dining options for winter break and instructions for end of year closing by visiting the Housing and Residential Life section of their myMarist accounts.

Marist A Cappella Presents: Sweater Weather

Saturday, December 9 | 7:00 p.m. | Fusco Recital Hall

Put on your favorite ugly holiday sweater and grab some hot cocoa as Time Check, Sirens, and The Enharmonics serenade you with pop favorites to close out 2023. 

 

Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for students of all ages and senior citizens. Purchase tickets here.

Giving Tree Ceremony

Sunday, December 10 | 6:30 p.m. |The Chapel

Through the Giving Tree initiative, the Department of Spiritual Life and Service has delivered more than 20,000 gifts to our local community over the last 30 years.


During this season of giving,members of the campus community were invited to select a tag ornament from any of the Giving Trees on campus, secure and wrap the gift requested on the tag ornament, and bring it to the Chapel by Sunday, Dec. 10, at 6:30 p.m. for the Giving Tree Ceremony.


Local partners, including Dutchess Outreach, Grace Smith House, Family Services, Catholic Charities, Poughkeepsie Family Literacy Program, and Dutchess BOCES/ESL, will help to distribute the gifts for the holidays.

Career Spotlight Series: Melissa Jones '08, Nexstar Media Group (Broadcast TV) - Virtual Event 

Thursday, December 14 | 12:00 p.m. | RSVP in Handshake, Zoom meeting link will be sent prior to the event

Melissa Jones '08 will discuss her 15 years of local broadcast management, sales and marketing, and TV station management experience. Melissa is the Vice President and General Manager of all braodcasting and digital operations in Dayton, Ohio (DMA #64) for WDTN-TV NBC and WBDT-TV CW, WDTN.com, and its related digital and social media channels for Nexstar Media Group. The event is open to students in all class years and majors.

Winter Break Career Coaching Appointments

Career coaches in the Center for Career Services will be available for virtual appointments throughout the Winter Break to provide assistance with:

Math Lab


The Math Lab is a peer help/tutoring center staffed entirely by student tutors, located in Hancock Center Room 3021.


Students may drop in without an appointment to seek assistance with certain mathematics courses.


The Math Lab staff can provide assistance with the following courses:

  • MATH 108 Intermediate Algebra
  • MATH 115 Calculus with Management Applications
  • MATH 120 Precalculus
  • MATH 241 Calculus I
  • MATH 242 Calculus II

Writing Center


The Marist Writing Center is another resource that offers free, one-on-one tutoring sessions to anyone in the Marist College community. They work with writers at any stage of the writing process and can help whether you are on your first or final draft.


Students can visit the site to learn more and schedule appointments.

Counseling Services


Counseling Services is located in the heart of campus on the first floor of Midrise. Dedicated to campus wellness, they provide: 


  • Short-term, goal-focused, biweekly counseling 
  • Referrals to weekly, long-term and specialized options off campus or close to home 
  • Weekly groups and workshops 
  • Education and Trainings 
  • Medication Evaluation and Management
  • Crisis Response

Academic Learning Center


The Academic Learning Center hosts a variety of programs to assist students, all at no additional cost: 

  

Academic Review and Drop-In Sessions: The Academic Learning Center sponsors review and drop-in sessions in various subjects for students in need of help. Available in fall and spring semesters.

  

Private Tutoring: The Academic Learning Center trains and assigns peer tutors for students in need of individualized help. Available in fall, spring, winter, and summer semesters. 

  

Proofreading: The goal of the proofreading program is to provide free proofreading services to the Marist community. Trained writing tutors will review student papers during staffed proofreading hours in the Academic Learning Center or online.

  

Drop-In Proofreading: A trained proofreader will be ready and waiting to proofread a student's paper for grammar and clarity. Students are served on a first-come, first-served basis. An appointment is needed for papers that are 10 or more pages in length. Please contact the Academic Learning Center directly to make an appointment. Available in fall and spring semesters.

  

On-Line Proofreading: Students should visit Brightspace.marist.edu and log in using their Marist account and password. Available in fall, spring, winter, and summer semesters.

  • Monday - Thursday, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., 3rd Floor Library Resource Center 

 

Academic Learning Center Brightspace Site: For quick tips on time-management, study skills, citations, writing & notetaking, etc., students can join this site through their Brightspace Membership tab.
