Last Friday, the 24th, Catherine Tarver Darby was born to the Sandbach clan and for the Darby clan. Parents Lauren and Tanner are well. So is big sister Anna Crawford. Grandparents Elise and Sandy are overjoyed with this news. I invite you to extend your congratulations to the families.

Notes from Father Hal

The Nursery will open each Sunday at 9:45 AM for children three years old and younger.

Older children, as an experiment, all parents and/or grandparents are invited to help their young children vest (in the office’s vesting room) so they may process into the church and sit in the Annex’s first rows. At the beginning of the Eucharistic Prayer, they will be asked to come to the Altar for a closer look into “what happens there.” Then, they will process out of the church to ring the bell as on “normal” Sundays.

Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) Sunday is June 9th. ERD has many missions, from short-term disaster response to longer-term programs, like improving the health of women, children, and our environment. Each year ERD also facilitates healthier, more fulfilling lives for more than 3 million people worldwide struggling with hunger, poverty, disaster, and disease. ERD partners with Anglican entities across the globe. In addition to these important ministry areas, ERD also responds in the US with critical resources and training helping people to prepare for disasters and provide emergency support to vulnerable communities so a swift, full, and sustained recovery may occur. My vision is for this day’s non-designated collections to go to supporting ERD ministries. See your insert on the 9th for more information.

Prayer for Israel and Palestine from Bishop Logue

“God of peace, we pray for the people of Israel and Palestine in this time of war.

For all who are fearful for the safety of their loved ones and themselves, we pray that the assurance of unfailing love, even in the midst of danger, settles upon them. Shelter them from despair and protect them from harm.

We remember before you the Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East, the Most Reverend Hosam Elias Naoum, and the people of his churches, hospitals, and other ministries.

For all who have died, we pray they find rest.

For all who grieve, we pray they find comfort.

For all who are wounded, we pray they find healing.

For leaders on all sides, we pray for the will to lay down arms and for the conviction to embrace a path of reconciliation and peace that preserves the rights and dignity of all of your children.

God of justice, we pray with hopeful hearts that your beloved children of the Holy Land.

We ask all this in the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.”

Prayer for the Ukraine

God of peace and justice, we pray for the people of Ukraine today. We pray for peace and the laying down of weapons. We pray for all those who fear for tomorrow, that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them. We pray for those with power over war or peace for wisdom, discernment, and compassion to guide their decisions. Above all, we pray for all your precious children, at risk and in fear, that you would hold and protect them. We pray in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

The Treasurer's Report from Stefani Carroll

Note from Stefani regarding the Treasurer's Report.

A quick explanation of the fund balances: They could be described as rainy-day savings accounts, albeit some on steroids. Most are restricted to specific uses (as many of the names imply) and are a great buffer for the church to have in case of unexpected expenses or for the development or expansion of ministries. For example, Special Funds includes ten different funds, plus holding and interest accounts. These include Lunch Bunch, Jammin’ with Jesus, Burial Garden, and a host of other funds established for specific purposes. Another example is the Gabard Music Endowment, which can only be used for music-related purchases.

What is Vespers? A group of Christ Church members and friends meets on Zoom (2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays) at 6:00 p.m. to read the Compline Service, pages 127-135 in the Book of Common Prayer and for friendly conversation afterwards. The first and third Sundays of the month we meet in-person and enjoy a bring-your-own sandwich supper in the parish hall afterwards. For those in-person meetings, we make an audio recording available by email after Vespers for those unable to attend in-person. To join the group and receive the link to the weekly gathering, contact Phyllis Hiers or call 229-563-2464.
