Called to Glory

David Weidner (former FLGA District Staff) was called home to Jesus on Sunday, May 26. David was called to serve as Executive Director of Congregational Services in 2002. He also served as Executive Assistant to the President from 2010 until 2014. David enjoyed his last few years of ministry with the team in the District Office before retiring in 2014. David was called to minister to youth, and he fulfilled his calling in countless ways. Please pray for his family during this time of grieving. You can read more about David's life here.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran in Oviedo, FL, on July 13 at 11 am, with a reception to follow. Please email memories and your RSVP for the reception.

Rev. Dr. Milan Weerts (Emeritus) was called to his heavenly home to be with Jesus on Monday, May 27. Milan, a 1961 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St Louis, MO, served Calls in the Florida-Georgia District and the South Wisconsin District and continued in various roles throughout the District in his 'retirement.' Please pray for his wife, Marjorie, and their family during this time of mourning, but rejoice in his homecoming with Jesus.

Services will be held at Woodlands Lutheran Church, Montverde, FL, on June 19 at 2:00 pm. You can read more here about Milan.

Dr. Carl Moser (former Director of LCMS School Ministry)

was called to his heavenly home on Friday, May 31. Dr. Moser faithfully served as Associate Director from 1983 to 1989 and then as Director of School Ministry from 1989 to 2000. His legacy in School Ministry, including his work with SLED, LSCS, NLSA (and much more), has profoundly impacted Lutheran Education. Read more here about Dr. Moser's life.

Prayers

Please lift your prayers up for Debbie Kneser, wife of Rev. Brian Kneser (Emeritus), who will undergo her third brain surgery on June 13 to implant a neurostimulator into her chest; this will help to improve her quality of life with Parkinson's Disease. The Kneser family is grateful for all the prayers for her first two surgeries!

President Rockey and Martha extend their deepest gratitude for all the prayers, cards, and support. Martha is slowly recovering with new anti-seizure medications, OT and PT, and lots of rest. They invite you to join them in giving thanks to the Lord for His provision and the healing that has begun!

Haley and Jonathan Poppe (Vicar, Grace, St. Petersburg, FL) welcomed their daughter, Sophia Diane Poppe, to the world on May 25. Please pray for their family as they adjust to life as a family of 3 and relocate to begin vicarage.

Ashley and Tim Handrick (Vicar, All Saints, Blairsville, GA) welcomed their son, Everett Josiah, to the world on May 11. Please continue praying for their family as they continue their many life changes.

Please pray for Fred Keller, the brother of Rev. Roger Keller (Emeritus). Fred was in a motorcycle accident in the Republic of Georgia and is in a coma. Please pray for him, his family, and all the medical staff and professionals working with him.

Please pray for Holy Cross Lutheran Church & School, North Miami, FL. Pray for God to reveal who He has chosen to be the next shepherd of their congregation, raise up new leaders within the church, and lead them in their search for a new principal.

Please pray for the men and women who are deployed. Pray for their safety, their health, and their spiritual care. Pray also for their families who live their lives without their loved ones with them.

Healing prayers for Rev. Luis Santana (St. Matthew, Miami) as he continues to recover at home from a mild heart attack.

Roy Heflin (Emeritus DCE) received news of no prostate cancer from a recent scan. We rejoice with Roy that he can now be presented to the medical board to be on the kidney list! Have you considered becoming an organ transplant donor?

How can we pray for you?

Anyone who wishes to join in the discussion or listen in is invited. Please click here to get your Zoom link.

LCEF recognizes the toll ministry can have on a church worker. They are providing four ministry sabbatical scholarships of $5000 to help church workers taking their first ministry sabbatical. Applications are available here. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2024.
