Federation Report - May 28, 2021
Landowner Protection Bill
Heads to the Governor's Desk

House Bill 369, which includes the Prescribed Burning Act and other favorable conservation legislation passed the state legislature and will head to the Governor’s desk for signature. Before this legislation, Missouri was one of only five states that did not have such a definition in state statute. Defining liability in prescribed fire legislation is not removing liability. Defining liability will enable insurance companies to offer policies providing protection to prescribed fire practitioners. It is important to note that one WILL be liable if they are negligent, as defined. The legislation also provides an incentive to landowners and contractors to seek voluntary prescribed fire training and certification, use a burn plan, and ultimately be more responsible for the burns they conduct.
Resource Advisory Committees
Calling for New Members

Resource Advisory Committees (RACs) are now accepting volunteers! Committees are a critical component of CFM and provide a means for any member to be actively involved in the Federation's operations and programs. Any current member may request to serve on a committee, subject to approval by the President. As CFM is a volunteer-driven organization, we need and greatly appreciate your time and efforts. There is a place for everyone willing to volunteer.

If you would like to serve on any Resource Advisory Committee (RAC), please submit the form linked below to Executive Director, Tyler Schwartze, tschwartze@confedmo.org.

Apply for Bear and Elk Seasons

For the first time in state history, Missouri is offering its first official black bear season! Similar to last year with the inaugural elk season, permits will be awarded to those who win that chance through a permit lottery system. Bear permits are also Bear Management Zone (BMZ) specific, so be sure to have a plan as to which of the three BMZ's you plan to hunt. Elk season permits will be awarded like last year. Be sure to follow all rules and regulations set forth in the Wildlife Code.

Apply by May 31st!
