2022 Fall/Winter Edition

ETHOS FARM PROJECT NEWS

Ethos Farm Project is a pioneering model for a farm-based healthcare system. Its mission of connecting regenerative agriculture with quality healthcare is unique and seeks to address the deeply interconnected nature of agriculture and healthcare; it does so by taking on climate change, cultivating a new generation of farmers, physicians, and nurses, healing patients with chronic disease, and building community.

We have seen incredible successes this year because of a growing number of supporters like you funding our Farm. You have helped fund a long list of infrastructure needs, most of which will be in place by next spring. That list includes a new tractor, a new walk-in cooler, new mower, a much needed new well and 2 new “hoop” greenhouses to lengthen our season and increase the quantity and variety of healthy organic produce which we will be able to grow and sell in 2023.

However, true regenerative organic farming cannot yet compete financially with giant, distant, corporate chemical agriculture. What we so carefully produce and sell will not yet support itself, nor the many educational activities that expand our healthy impact. We really do get by with a little help from our friends!

So, in this giving season, as we approach Giving Tuesday, please consider continuing to support our mission. Your support will fund education and wellness activities like Kids Farm, the Next Generation Farmers Program, Food Education events, Next Generation Physicians Program and Farm Days celebrations with speakers like Dr T. Colin Campbell,

Dr Joel Fuhrman, Gene Baur, Dr Michael Klaper, Dr Sailesh Rao, Dr Ron Weiss, and so many leaders and thinkers who are as eager to change the world as we are.

Ethos Farm Project: Farm Days Festival 2022: Grand Success!

Standing Ovation for Farmers

Nora, Nick, and Jessi got up on stage at Farm Days 2022 and were greeted by a roaring, standing ovation. It was a very emotional and heart-warming moment for us.

You all made us feel loved and appreciated and showed it with your generous donations. The farmers got up to thank you for your generosity and you reciprocated with the applause they deserve as they help us all thrive with the abundant beautiful, vibrant, health-giving produce, every season, season after season!

Farm Days Speakers

You showed up in significant numbers to listen to and absorb all the wisdom disseminated by Dr T. Colin Campbell, Dr Michael Klaper, Dr Joel Fuhrman, Dr Sailesh Rao of the Climate Healers, Gene Baur of the amazing Farm Sanctuary and our very own Dr Ron Weiss.

Here's some of what you told us after the event:

"I left feeling uplifted!"

"I can't wait to come back next year!"

"I will be 100% plant-based, avoiding all animal products."

Farm Days Dinner and Musical Evening to Thank Speakers and Donors

Chef Karina Hines, whose delectable plant based creations with which you are familiar if you have been receiving our weekly farm market mailing, prepared an amazing four course dinner for our speakers and major donors on Saturday, September 25th.

Dinner was followed by a brilliant musical performance by Jascha Weiss and Dr Weiss, a wonderful way to cap an amazing day.

A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, sponsors, vendors, donors, and supporters who made this first Farm Days Festival a success. We can't wait to see everyone back at Ethos Farm again next year.

Farm Days 2023, August 19th and 20th

We felt uplifted by your responses and Ethos Farm Days 2023 preparations are in the works. If you pre-registered for the 2023 Farm Days event while you were at Farm Days 2022, you will be thrilled to know that we have finalized the dates. It will be on the August 19th and 20th weekend. In 2022 we had close to 300 people attend the event on Saturday and on Sunday. Once again it promises to be an exciting celebration of health, compassion, and the ethics of eating, Whole Food Plant-Based education from leading speakers, thinkers and practitioners of the whole plant-based lifestyle, experts on environment, regenerative agriculture, nourishing movement, and delicious food provided by the amazing Kellyn Foundation.

Centered around our majestic 280-year-old working farm and National Historic Landmark, the event is going to be unmissable! Stay tuned for additional details!

We need dedicated volunteers to help with planning, soliciting sponsors and vendors, generating ideas for other activities and assisting us in preparations for the event. Please email us to offer volunteering assistance.

If you would like to stay up to date on Spring opening dates and get our weekly farm market produce listings during the growing season, please sign up here.

ETHOS PRIMARY CARE NEWS

Charles Gassenheimer with Another Impressive NYC Marathon 2022 Finish

Dr Weiss' patient, Charles Gassenheimer ran the 2022 NYC Marathon in rainy and humid conditions on November 6th and finished at an impressive 4.21!

2022 NYC Marathon Success

Charles wasn't thrilled at the weather forecast for Sunday when we spoke to him, a humid 70 degrees, but he felt good going into the race and in better shape this year.

He credits his success to his whole plant based diet which supported his training regimen and kept him inflammation and injury free through very hard workouts. This is very different from when he used to run in high school.

At 50, Charles runs faster than when he was in his mid-twenties and it is hard to argue with the reasons for his outstanding performance!

We wish him continued success in all his races, he is an amazing role model for all plant warriors out there!

Dr Weiss' Mindful Retreat at Menla in the Catskills

At Ethos our goal is to apply the six pillars of lifestyle medicine as defined by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and one additional pillar unique to our practice. The Ethos Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine encompass Nutrition, Fitness (movement and activity), Emotional Wellbeing/Stress Reduction, Sleep Health, Avoidance of Risky substances and substances present in our environment due to industrialization processes, Social Connection, and Connection to the natural world (e.g., nature, microbiome).

During our Menla Retreat at the Catskills this year we tapped each pillar with heartfelt joy, camaraderie, and the warmth of connection one can only feel when people with like-minded goals come together in a magical place like the Catskills! You can see more pictures here.

Patient Potlucks 2022

We were all eager to meet each other, savor each other's plant-based culinary excellence, and exchange recipes, after staying indoors for two long, isolated years. There were four Potluck events in 2022 and we were taken to the heights of epicurean delight with each one as we tasted all the deliciousness that is possible within what non-plant-based eaters assume is a restrictive and unsustainable way of eating but is actually rife with unlimited delectability.
