ETHOS FARM PROJECT NEWS
Ethos Farm Project is a pioneering model for a farm-based healthcare system. Its mission of connecting regenerative agriculture with quality healthcare is unique and seeks to address the deeply interconnected nature of agriculture and healthcare; it does so by taking on climate change, cultivating a new generation of farmers and physicians, healing patients with chronic disease, and building community.

However, none of this would be possible if it were not for Dr. Weiss’ unwavering dedication to this mission. The changes we are looking to advance are bold and paradigm-shifting. Our generous donors understand this and we have some great news to share!
At this time of the year we are thankful for having received a pledge from two donors who have challenged us to raise an additional $100,000 from our friends so we can make the Ethos Farm Project’s vision of regenerative organic agriculture a reality. Every dollar you give now will be doubled, with a dollar-for-dollar match, by some very grateful patient friends of Dr. Weiss.

Ethos Farm Project: Another Successful Season, Many New Customers
|
|
New Roadside Farmstand
The market is now closed for the season and our farmers are busy planning for the 2022 season. But come Spring the brand new and well-stocked roadside farmstand will once again appear at the entrance with all the vegetables you have come to love. We added new signage this past fall to draw attention to the farmstand – along with a panel describing our mission that you can read about while browsing the market.
People driving by will easily be able to pull over and park so that they can browse through a rainbow of attractively arrayed cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, and berries when they are in season.
Please stop by to take a look next year!

Farmer Nick's Thoughts on the 2021 Season
2021 brought a new set of weather related challenges as Farmer Nick familiarized himself with Ethos Farm. He was greeted by a blizzard with 2.5 feet of snow the day after his 2021 arrival. The tunnels were frequently flooded and global warming kept delivering challenges in the form of windstorms and frequent precipitation. However, the intrepid trio of Nora, Nick, and Jessi turned it all around to deliver a successful season with plenty of flavorful and nutrient dense produce. Nick will now be able to apply all the wisdom gained about challenges that are specific to Ethos Farm. The team of Nora, Nick, and Jessi will continue to deliver success in 2022.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Charles Gassenheimer
|
|
|
2021 NYC Marathon Success
Charles Gassenheimer successfully ran the 2021 NYC Marathon where he shaved 8 minutes off his 2019 personal best in spite of a foot injury which kept him from following his training plan over the summer. He credits the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course that is offered by Asha Gala, the Lifestyle Clinical Director at Ethos Primary Care, for this success as he did a full day "sit" the Saturday before the Marathon which which enabled him to feel completely calm and focused during his run.

|
MBSR and Triplets!
Charles and his wife were recently blessed with triplets. One of them, Grayson, had significant breathing challenges and it was quite a stressful and nerve wracking time for the family. The only thing helped was holding Grayson skin-to-skin. Charles used this time to clear his mind by applying all he had learned in mindfulness awareness training while focusing on helping Grayson. Charles is pleased to report that Grayson is now off oxygen and will hopefully be able to join his brother and sister and leave the hospital now.

Pillars of Health Event on Ethos Farm
At Ethos our goal is to apply the six pillars of lifestyle medicine as defined by the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and one additional pillar unique to our practice. The Ethos Pillars of Lifestyle Medicine encompass Nutrition, Fitness (movement and activity), Emotional Wellbeing/Stress Reduction, Sleep Health, Avoidance of Risky substances and substances present in our environment due to industrialization processes, Social Connection, and Connection to the natural world (e.g., nature, microbiome)
On Oct 30th, the Pillars of Health event at Ethos introduced attendees to the three foundational lifestyle pillars. When neglected, these pillars contribute to the onset of most illnesses:
-
Food Choices led by Dr Weiss
-
Exercise and Movement wherein Jessi Stensland introduced the concepts of Natural Movement, Nutrition for Life which is all very skillfully encompassed in her word "Kinterractive" which reflects the words Kinesthetics, Terra (Earth), and Active.
-
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction introduced by Ethos Lifestyle Clinical Director, Asha Gala.

September 2021 Columbia Trail Hike
Yearly hikes are an important part of the Ethos journey; reflecting our patients' hard work over the year. This year, we hiked a part of the Columbia Trail to the Fairview Avenue entrance of Schooley's Mountain Park which has a beautiful lake, waterfalls, and a scenic view of the valley and shared a fabulous, warm, fall-inspired meal afterward to celebrate.
