THE EPISTLE: April 13, 2023

This Week: April 13th - April 19th

Thank you to all the amazing hands and hearts who contributed to making our Holy Week/Easter Worship & Celebrations absolutely incredible this year at St. Thomas. From the quiet of Holy Monday, through the joy of the Seder Supper on Holy Tuesday, to the moving music of our Holy Wednesday Choral meditation, through the Foot Washing & Stripping of the Altar on Maundy Thursday, the Adoration of the Cross on Good Friday, the Easter Egg Hunt, Hot Dog Lunch, and Flowering of the Church on Holy Saturday, with all the "Joyful Noise" of the Easter Vigil, and, finally, our delicious Easter Brunch and powerful Easter Sunday Eucharists, WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU! Thank you to all our cooks, altar guild members, flower artists, egg hiders, kitchen gurus, rocket scientists & engineers, musicians, and general helping handers! You are all amazing! And a special thank you to our dedicated St. Thomas church staff and clergy! We are a truly blessed church family. Alleluia, Christ is Risen! The Lord has risen indeed, Alleluia!

Be sure to check out all the amazing photos below! And thank you, Gregg Geis, St. Thomas' photographer extraordinaire!

This Sunday Evening, April 16th at 5pm! The "Laid Back" Sunday Evening Eucharist & Supper Returns!

It's back! Join us for an our 'come-as-you-are' Holy Eucharist THIS SUNDAY EVENING at 5pm in the Nave! This informal, shorter worship service is slightly different from our Sunday morning Eucharists, with simpler guitar music and a more laid-back feel. All ages are encouraged to come and participate! And join us afterwards for a simple supper in the Parish Hall. This has been the most requested service ever since it ended last year, and we're very excited to bring it back to St. Thomas again, starting this Sunday and every Sunday at 5pm!

Adult Christian Formation Sunday School Classes RETURN this Sunday

Fr. Donavan's Adult Christian Formation class, "20 Bible Passages Every Christian Should Know" will be concluding this Sunday, April 16th, and the following Sunday, April 23rd. Don't miss the final discussion on what is most likely approaching 25 passages of the Bible every Christian should know! The class begins at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall, and there's still time to listen, learn, and join the conversation!

Join Ranie as she picks back up her book study in the Conference Room to discuss The Night is Long but Light Comes in the Morning: Meditations for Racial Healing by Dr. Catherine Meeks. Join the discussion as we discuss healing through the faithful question: do we really want to be well? This Book Study will now run through May 7th.

After last’s month’s very special Silver Saints Matinee Movie, we want to offer you a light, fun movie this month; “THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL,” with Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, and others; about some cash-strapped British seniors who decide to retire to a resort in India. A British film, it has cute, subtle humor and perfect for a Spring day. It shares how individuals adjust to a society quite foreign to their own. Come join us in the St. Thomas Parish Hall at 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 20.

The Silver Saints Movie Matinee offers fun and fellowship with our parishioners and visitors much like going to a theater, but with no fee. We offer snacks and beverages, and we will even pick you up and return you home if you wish. We offer comfortable seating and a time-out break half way through the movie. Please bring your friends and ask people from our neighborhood. Call Jack or Becky Stokes at 256-881-4748, or the church office at 256-880-0247. Please call 24 hours ahead if you will need a ride. Please come join us.

The Lobsterfest Steering Committee is proud to announce the 2023 Lobsterfest King and Queen, Mike and Laura Beth Bestor.  Please support Mike and Laura Beth as they plan our 2023 Lobsterfest.

In addition, Lobsterfest will have two training sessions this year:

One in May, which will be Lobsterfest 101 and will describe the various committees that make up Lobsterfest. Current or Past Chairs of the committees will provide an overview of the committee; general description, chair responsibility and volunteers responsibilities.  Lobsterfest 101 is set for Sunday, May 21st, during the Christian Formation Hour in the Parish Hall.

The second will be in October, Lobsterfest 201, and will be a call for volunteers needed to support Lobsterfest 2023.  Committee Chairs will describe volunteer responsibilities and volunteer sign-up sheets will be available for each committee. Look for the date for Lobster 201 later in the summer.
