USF awarded more than 4,500 degrees during fall commencement held at the Yuengling Center. The group featured five undergraduate business students earning a perfect 4.0 GPA who were recognized as a King O'Neal Scholar.

Steve Diasio, an associate professor of instruction, was named to Poets&Quants for Undergrad's annual list of the Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors worldwide for 2022. The winners were selected from over 500 nominations.

Researchers with the USF Supply Chain Innovation Lab completed two sister projects aimed at helping to improve the state’s freight transportation and logistics network. The projects support the need to attract more companies to Florida.

At 16 years old, Danylo Solomentsev left his home in Ukraine to study at USF. When the Russia-Ukraine war began, he used his marketing skills to help coordinate a campaign that raised over $7,000 for humanitarian relief.

Weekend MBA program relaunched as a hybrid


The newly redesigned Professional Weekend MBA program kicked off this fall on the Sarasota-Manatee campus with a new hybrid delivery model. Students meet in person once a month for class while also taking remote classes to work around busy professional and personal schedules. Watch the video

Alumni spotlight: Ray Childs


Ray Childs began working at the Polk Correctional Institution as a correctional officer in 2007. In 2013, he earned his bachelor's in business management and information systems from USF. The Bulls alumnus now serves as the institution's education supervisor. Read more.

Florida High Tech grant supports honors program


The Florida High Tech Corridor and USF's Research & Innovation awarded the Muma College of Business $10,000 to support student scholarships in the Business Honors Program. The Corridor Undergraduate Research Initiative grants will support current undergraduate students and their research. Read more.

Student named Fund for Education Abroad Scholar


Accounting major Talia Flores has been selected as a Fund for Education Abroad Scholar. This national scholarship means she will spend the Spring 2023 semester in South Korea. Read More.

Faculty Spotlights

Nathan Hartmann, an assistant professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation on the Sarasota-Manatee campus, was featured on The Conversation Intelligence podcast with the Sales Enablement Collective titled “Predicting and optimizing your return on sales enablement.”


Pinshuo Wang, an assistant professor at the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, co-authored an article titled “Does Student Loan Forgiveness Have Significant Benefits for the Economy?” for the CLS Blue Sky Blog, Columbia Law School’s blog on corporations and the capital markets.


Tina Yang, an associate professor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance on USF’s St. Petersburg campus, was appointed co-editor of The Financial Review effective Jan. 1, 2023.


Russell Clayton, an assistant professor of instruction, was quoted in a Fast Company article titled “How to talk to your boss about working too much.”


Carol Osborne, a senior instructor in the School of Marketing and Innovation and director of the Zimmerman Advertising Program, was quoted in a Fox-13 and a WFTS-Tampa Bay news story about holiday shopping trends. She was also featured in a Herald-Tribune story about Cyber Monday.

Alumni Updates

Jason Bearden (‘19, Executive MBA) was elected to the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners and will serve all county residents as an At-Large Commissioner in District 6.


Rich Grieder (‘10, MS, Accounting) was promoted to vice president for brokerage at JLL, a real estate and investment management company. He is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.


Teresa Watkins (‘02, BS, Accounting, ’03, MACC, Accounting) was appointed chief operations officer at Green Dot Corporation. Prior to her promotion, she served as the company’s senior vice president of payment processing.


Amy Rubin (‘17, MS, Management, ’18, MBA, Dean’s office) has a new opportunity as a manager for partnership marketing at the National Hockey League.


Igor Schattan (‘20, BS, Finance) started a new position as a junior financial advisor at Darwin Partners, a wealth and asset management company. He is a former USF Muma College of Business 25 Under 25 honoree.


Roman Alfaro (‘07, BS, Finance) started a new role as a business analyst at the accounting firm Sikich.

Blair Wood Jones with her venture Community Input Transit took first place in the USF Sustainability Business Model Pitch Competition held on the St. Petersburg campus. Britani Silvera with Vera Fuels took second and Zachary Loeb took third.


The three judges from the business community included Mark Hunter with KLH Capital, Michael Babb with Osceola Capital Management, and Vanessa Ferrer with Para Adelante.

The third annual Business Ethics Essay Competition concluded with over 100 applicants. Accounting major Lily Lyons won first place, finance major Trenton Garcia took second, and finance and accounting major Lan Phan won third.


The event is supported by the Exide Professorship in Business Ethics. This year's essay question was "Why Do Business Ethics Matter?"
