Upcoming 'Topping Off' Ceremony to be Held for the HELIX

The new medical school, soon to be housed in the HELIX (New Jersey Health + Life Science Exchange) building, will celebrate a significant milestone in its construction with a private "Topping Off" Ceremony on Friday, Sept. 6. Organized by the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO), the event will honor the dedicated tradesmen and tradeswomen whose hard work and expertise have brought the project to this crucial stage.

The ceremony will feature the painting and signing of the final structural steel beam by the workers involved in the construction. Once signed, the beam will be hoisted by crane and securely attached by the Iron Workers, symbolizing the completion of the building's framework.

The Helix will consist of three buildings:

H-1 will be the new home of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, plus an NJ Innovation Hub. The HUB will have co-working space and shared public health research labs, with the goal of being a launch pad for micro-tech and start-ups.

H-2 Nokia Bell Labs plans to occupy the entire space. Nokia announced they are leaving their current headquarters in Union County to relocate to the HELIX in 2028. New Brunswick will be their new global headquarters for research and development.

H-3 is planned to be a 42-story apartment building.

The "Topping Off" Ceremony is a time-honored tradition in construction, signifying the achievement of the highest point of the building.

Chilling with the Dean: Highlights from the Ice Cream Socials!

The Ice Cream Socials, hosted by Dean Amy P. Murtha, MD, saw a great turnout this summer across the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses. Faculty and staff gathered to enjoy sweet treats and camaraderie. The tradition extended to our seven off-site clinical practices as well, where The Urban Cone ice cream truck made special visits, allowing everyone to create their own sundaes. This annual event has become a summer tradition, serving as a heartfelt thank you from Dean Murtha for all the hard work and dedication throughout the year.
