2024 Lecture Series
May Lecture: Brown and Sharpe
|
We are well into our 2024 Lecture Series schedule, and we have had some great speakers so far! We have a full schedule for the year, and we're already working on booking 2025. In May, we have Gerald Carbone presenting “Brown & Sharpe: The Company that Shaped the World” on Thursday, May 23rd in Gallery 26.
Historian and author Gerald Carbone will show how a Rhode Island metals company founded in the 1830s literally shaped modern material culture through its ingenuity and inventions. Company founder Joseph Brown developed the “X-Y-Z Machine” that Capt. Nat used in shaping his hull models, a predecessor of the modern Coordinate Measuring Machine that instantaneously provides manufacturers with three-dimensional measuring points to prevent product errors. The link between Brown & Sharpe’s precision measuring tools and Herreshoff’s precise designs is inextricable.

America's Cup Hall of Fame Reception
The Golden Age of the J-Class
|
After the success of last year’s event celebrating the 12-Metres in Newport, we hope you will join us at The Sailing Museum for an evening celebrating the Golden Age of the J-Class in the America's Cup.
On June 13th, we will gather to relive the excitement and glamour of one of the most exhilarating and important periods in America's Cup history - the J-Boat Era. We'll be joined by modern-day J-Class sailors who, with a little prompting from Hall of Famer Gary Jobson, will share their experiences on board these mighty racing monsters! A combination of vintage and current video will play on the big screens as we enjoy an open bar, passed hors d'oeuvres and a fully-stocked raw bar. Tickets are only $45 and can be purchased here. Come and join us at The Sailing Museum June 13th!

Art & Artisan Market
CALL FOR VENDORS
| The Herreshoff Art & Artisan Market is moving to the tent this summer, and we are looking for vendors! The Market will be held on the waterfront every Friday, 10-2pm, starting on June 7th and running until August 30th. The waterfront is a busy place on Fridays with American Cruise Lines' American Star docked here and the sailing program's Friday BBQ, so there should be plenty of customers! There are only 14 vendor spots per day, so don’t delay! Click here to learn more or sign up as a vendor! | |
