Take Precaution to PREVENT FIRES
Proper Hazardous Waste Disposal
During the collection and transportation process, our household garbage can be exposed to extreme heat and pressure. If lithium batteries and hazardous materials or chemicals are mixed in with our trash, these conditions can lead to fires or explosions and become incredibly dangerous for waste workers.
Because of this, it is critically important that rechargeable lithium batteries (such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, drones, vape pens, etc.) and household hazardous waste are NOT placed in the trash or recycling. Instead, they should be taken to one of the Hazardous Waste Collection Centers at the Tillman Ridge or Stratton Road Transfer Station.
Pictured is a destroyed truck and trailer from a garbage fire last year.

Hurricane Preparedness
Gated Communities
St. Johns County encourages gated communities to prepare for hurricane season!
Property managers and residential homeowners' association (HOA) presidents can take steps to protect their community in the event of a hurricane or other declared major disaster. Gated communities must have a current Right of Entry Form on file before any disaster recovery crews can access your community to collect storm-related debris.
St. Johns County has an easy, online process for submitting the necessary paperwork. Completed forms can be emailed to solidwaste@sjcfl.us.
