The Cougar Connection
The mission of Corpus Christi Catholic School is to nurture every child by providing the opportunities to grow in faith, achieve academic success, and serve others as disciples of Jesus
December 13, 2021
Dear Parents,

As we near the midpoint of our school year, I want to thank you for entrusting your children to us. On behalf of the faculty and staff, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas. May this joyous season and the coming year be filled with blessings of God's peace and joy.

Our Christmas holidays will begin with our noon dismissal on Friday. Our teachers will be on a retreat on January 3, and we will look forward to welcoming our students back to campus on Tuesday, January 4th.
Sincerely,
Bible Verse
Our Bible verse focus for the upcoming month of December is John 13:35:

“By this all men will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.”

The prayer we will focus on is the Glory Be:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Education in Virtue
We have now explored all of the virtues that fall under the Cardinal virtue of Justice. When we return to school in January, we will begin to learn about the virtues that are related to the Cardinal virtue of Prudence.
#iGiveCatholic - Thank you!
We are so thankful for the generosity of our school community. Thanks to our generous donors, we received more than $7000 during the #igiveCatholic Day of Giving Campaign.
Shower for Baby Jesus
40 Days for Life is sponsoring a baby shower for Jesus, and items will be donated to 2B Choices for Women. Our middle school pro-life club is encouraging all to participate. Students are welcome to bring any baby items to school by Friday.
Christmas Musical
Students in grades K-5 will be participating in a Christmas Musical Angel Alert this week. The performance will be held in the Banquet Hall. Please see the note below from Mrs. Gee for information about drop-off and pick-up times and more.

On Tuesday, December 14 students will need to be dropped off at 5:30 p.m. in their designated areas listed below. Students will also need to be picked up from the same location by 7 p.m.
  • K-2 will report to their classrooms.
  • 3-5 will report to the Adult Ed Room in the church.

Students' performance attire is blue jeans, black or white shoes (tennis
shoes preferred, no heels), and the program t-shirt. T-shirts will be distributed
in the coming weeks. All K-5 students will need to wear their performance attire
to school on Wednesday, December 15.

We chose to have two performances in an effort to comfortably fit family and friends in the banquet hall. The performances will be Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning at 8:15 a.m. Please choose one performance to attend. (If you are able to attend the morning performance, I encourage you to do so.)
Ms. Voncille Day - December 16
As previously shared, our wonderful crossing guard, Ms. Voncile Smith, is retiring. December 17 will be her last day. Ms. Voncile has been keeping our students safe for 16 years, while also blessing so many parents and commuters with her contagious smile and positive attitude each and every day. We are planning to honor her the morning of Thursday, December 16 with a parade. Beginning at 8:15, students in PreK-5th grade will be alongside the sidewalk to honor her as she comes by. The 2nd part of the parade will begin at 8:45 where Ms. Voncile will be stationed in the gym. Parents are welcome to walk through and visit with her there, and our middle school students will parade past her in the gym during our exam break. We would love for our parents to join us.

Words cannot convey how much she will be missed by all of us, as I know she brightens the day of so many!

As Ms. Voncile said in an interview last year:

One day I asked the Lord what can I do to make people feel good about themselves. God said, ‘You have the gifts of a smile, a wave, and love.’ I went to the Prichard police station to ask for a job. They asked what I had to offer. I said I can make people feel happy about themselves. They hired me to be a crossing guard. I’ve been a crossing guard for 25 years. I was in Prichard for ten years and I’ve been at the Corpus Christi school for 15 years.
