Notes from Keoni,

Dear Shaw Middle School Community,

As we step into April, I'm filled with immense pride reflecting on the incredible journey we've undertaken this school year. The progress we've made, both academically and socially, is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our students, staff, and families. With the final months upon us, let's maintain our momentum and continue to support each other in achieving excellence.

I'm thrilled to announce that our MAP testing has concluded, and the early results are showcasing significant growth across the board. It's a clear indicator of our students' hard work and our teachers' dedication. Next on our academic calendar is the SBAC state testing. I encourage parents and guardians to support their children by ensuring they get ample rest, arrive at school on time, and approach their tests with confidence and determination.

Spring is buzzing with activities at Shaw Middle School! Spring sports are kicking off, so please ensure your students are cleared through Final Forms. A special shoutout to our winter athletes for their exceptional performances, particularly our wrestlers, with eight placing at the Spok-a-loo city tournament. Additionally, our band and orchestra have left us in awe with their talents at the Spokane Band and Orchestra Festival. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who supported and attended our Spring band concert. Stay tuned for the announcement of our choir and orchestra concert date and time.

A gentle reminder for our parents: your engagement is crucial. Help our students by encouraging punctuality, maintaining grades, and making positive choices. To stay updated on your child's progress, please utilize PowerSchool. Our office is here to assist anyone needing help accessing or using the app.

As we navigate the remainder of the school year, let's stay focused on our goals and uphold the values that define Shaw Middle School. I am confident that together, we will continue to achieve remarkable things. Thank you to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and dedication to our school community. Here's to finishing the year strong, together.

Warmest regards,

Keoni Dang

Principal, Shaw Middle School

As we enter the season of renewal and growth, it's time for us to make the big push toward the end of the school year. Let's carry forward the values of respect, kindness, gratitude, and acts of service as guiding principles in our interactions with one another and our school. By showing respect for our peers, teachers, and staff, and by fostering an environment of inclusivity and understanding, we can create a positive and supportive atmosphere where everyone feels valued and appreciated. Let's also remember to express gratitude for the opportunities we have and the efforts of those around us, recognizing the hard work and dedication that goes into making Shaw Middle School a place of learning and growth.

As we embark on this final stretch of the school year, let's harness the power of kindness and acts of service to uplift and support one another. Whether it's lending a helping hand to a classmate, participating in school-wide initiatives, or simply offering words of encouragement, each small act contributes to the collective spirit of our community. Let's continue to work together to create a culture of positivity and support that propels us toward success and fosters a sense of belonging for all members of our Shaw Middle School Family.

Warm regards,

A great showing from the Shaw wrestlers at Spok-A-Loo. Shaw took 4th place overall with several of our wrestlers placing in their individual weight classes.

Our Advanced Orchestra students had a great time at the Spokane Festival. They earned an excellent rating for their performance.

We are a proud Title I School. This is a federal designation that provides our school additional resources to improve student learning. We use our Title I funds to hire additional instructional staff, provide professional development opportunities for staff, purchase additional instructional materials, and engage the family community in events. We will be planning virtual family events in the future. Please view our Shaw website for more information.

At Shaw, we invite you to continue to find ways to partner with us in your student’s education. One way to partner with us is to provide input on our Title I Parent Engagement Plan, our Title I Compact, and our School Improvement Plan which have been emailed out to families and placed on the Shaw website home page. We appreciate your feedback. Thank you, families, for supporting your students at Shaw Middle School.
