BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS UPDATE

I’ve been Building & Grounds Chair for a pair of months now and we’re about to see some monumental changes to our building and personally I can’t wait. The renovations will begin shortly, and I’d just like to say please be patient with the mess and any inconveniences that are around the corner.

The social hall renovations aside there a few small things I think everyone should be made aware of.

  • The skylight in the far north stairwell that was removed the better part of a decade ago has begun to leak. Again. Some of you may have noticed the women’s restroom across from the parlor is getting a fresh coat of paint. There seems to be a second leak in the roof that is causing this issue and we’re looking into that also.
  • We’re exploring these repairs in addition to the potential replacement of the entire flat roof deck as we approach the end of its warranty period. Although it is not a visible or fun undertaking it’s important to take steps to protect the overall building.
  • We have a few Saturdays ahead (May 4, 11, & 18) where we’ll be purging and preparing the areas affected by the social hall renovation. Please feel free to join us each morning starting at 9am as we organize and remove items that will need addressed prior to construction.
  • We’ve ordered new railings for the area by the columns after the painting company crushed the one on the eastern side. They should be made and installed sometime early summer.

Sorry I’ve brought some less than joyful situations to the forefront here, but I think it’s important to keep the congregation abreast of how our building is being cared for. Feel free to approach me on Sundays or reach out if you’d like any questions or concerns addressed.

LCC's Community Meal

We will be offering our monthly

Community Meal

Thursday, May 2

Our April community meal was prepared, assembled and distributed on Thursday, April 4. We served pork roast with gravy, mixed vegetables, biscuits and butter, bananas, and Vicki and Joanne made rice crispy treats. Our vegetarians enjoyed plant-based chicken patties with marinara sauce with all the other goodies.

Our fabulous team this month was Wendy Summers, Robert Wenz, Paula Deal, Bob Paraska, John Kasper, and Nancy Fraunfelder. We had 21 guests attend – 41 meals were taken, and the other seven were donated to AA.

Peggi and Michael Mizen

Food delivery services have changed since the onset of Covid. If you have the means to donate, two local organizations that could be donated to are the Cleveland Food Bank and the Lakewood Community Service Center.

Each first Sunday of the month is our dedicated Hunger Sunday.

There are Hunger Envelopes at the back of the Sanctuary for your donation towards this LCC Ministry.

Music Makers

Would you like to share your music talents as a vocalist or instrumentalist in LCC’s worship service?

Please let us know what you’d be interested in sharing and whether you’d want piano or guitar accompaniment. The Music Team will reach out to you several weeks ahead of time to coordinate.”
