A Note From Our Executive Director
Dear friend of 4Cs,
On October 5th, 4Cs of Alameda County celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a reception full of supporters, friends, and family. The party was unforgettable for many reasons: Gorgeous views, incredible turnout, a surprise appearance by my beautiful daughters, memorable testimonials and stories, and, perhaps most memorable for me, were the lessons learned from keynote speaker Arnold Chandler. Mr. Chandler is a local advocate, researcher, trainer, and social change strategist and he spoke about research and practical implementations of “The Long Reach of Early Childhood and the need to create Escape Trajectory.” While you can view his entire presentation slide deck here, one of the most poignant slides he shared (slide 27 for those following along) was about “on track” and “off track” indicators in childhood and early adulthood that have a direct correlation to folks obtaining a middle-class outcome. For example, attending pre-k or being “school ready” for kindergarten contribute to the “on track” trajectory, pre-term birth/low birth weight and school suspensions would be part of the “off track” trajectory to obtaining middle-class status as an adult. Looking around the room at the event, I felt hope in that all that we are doing – 4Cs and our vast network of community partners - truly creates the collective impact that changes the trajectories of children’s lives. Whenever, wherever, and however we serve a child in their life, we are part of the solution to keep them “on track” to a happy, healthy life. While no one agency does it alone, we each play a special and very necessary part from cradle to career. Thank you for being part of our impact for the past 50 years and for decades to come.
Be well,
Renee S. Herzfeld
Chief Executive Officer

Monica Jara
Supervisor, Office Administration

|
“The most fulfilling part of my role here at 4Cs is that, although I don’t always work directly with our clients, we are usually the first faces they see. This means that we get to create a great and friendly experience for our clients when they walk through our doors… Working at 4Cs has made me a better person in my career and personal life.”
Just a few months after the pandemic hit, Monica joined 4Cs team as Supervisor of Office Administration. Since then, Monica has been essential in keeping 4Cs offices running efficiently and effectively for more than 3 years. Monica especially appreciates that 4Cs takes care of the families they serve as much as they take care of their staff – this balance allows staff to remain connected and balanced in their work. Most recently, you may recognize Monica and her many talents as the person behind the Chase Paw Patrol costume at our Children’s Fair or saw her stunning floral skills on display at our 50th Anniversary Celebration Reception. She gives credit to 4Cs for giving her work-life balance she hasn’t found at other jobs, allowing to spend more time with her 11-year-old son and building her own small floral business. We are lucky to have Monica’s talent and passion as part of our 4Cs family.
Thank You for Making 4Cs 50th Anniversary a Resounding Success!

4Cs Staff Bring Sunshine to New Afghan Providers
|
Led by the 4Cs of Alameda County Sunshine Committee, 4Cs staff collected and donated supplies to support six new child care providers working with the Afghan Coalition to start their own family child care businesses. Boxes were overflowing with crayons, scissors, organizational materials, glue sticks, paper, kid-sized aprons, PPE, safety materials, educational toys, and more all donated by 4Cs team members. Anita Kassam from the Afghan Coalition picked up the supplies from 4Cs Provider Services Manager Barbara Kasnic to distribute to providers across the county.
