Renée Bouchard, Hey Mommy!, 2021, Watercolor, acrylic, hay, child's toy and staples on Arches paper 52 x 50 inches
LA Arts Gallery in Lewiston, Maine, presents Renée Bouchard: Allegory of Prudence through January 14, 2022, the title, a homage to the painting by Titian. On her work and the concept of "high art", the artist states: " I am constantly playing with this idea by allowing non-traditional materials like natural and human made objects into my paintings. Aiming to transcend the materials, I walk over them to flatten them, staple and glue them on the surface. " LA Arts Gallery is located at 221 Lisbon St., Lewiston, Maine, Wednesday—Friday from 12—4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.—3 p.m. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Kenson Truong: Bespoke at Boston Sculptors Gallery
in Boston, Massachusetts, December 10 — January 3
Kenson Truong, Phantom Limbs Can Still Play Hide and Seek, 2018, clear and fluorescent acrylic, Stonehenge Aqua, ultraviolet ink, 4 x 9 x 27 inches.
Boston Sculptors Gallery welcomes Kenson Truong in his premiere solo exhibition, Bespoke. Truong uniquely taps into the psyche of cephalopods, i.e. the cuttlefish and the octopus while tying in his identity as a gay Asian man. He notes their “aptitude to shapeshift and camouflage in plain sight through its cognitive ability to learn systems of deception using spatial memory, personalities, and motor play” and how experiments on them “has developed into metaphor for psychological phenomena represented by cognitive dissonance and social cognitive theory.” Boston Sculptors Gallery is located at 486 Harrison Ave., Boston, Massachusetts. The gallery is open Wednesday—Sunday from 11 a.m. — 5 p.m. They will be closed December 24 — January 1 for the holidays. For more information, please visit here.
