Participant Spotlight - Leiran Zhang

Meet Leiran Zhang! Leiran is a regular at the Joslyn Center for lunch, and she participates in a variety of classes and activities. We sat down with Leiran to find out a little more about her and what prompted her to become a part of the senior community at the Joslyn Center.

What brought you to the Joslyn Center? How did you find us?

Leiran: My daughter lives in Claremont and she asked me to move in with her. While we were at church, a woman told us about the Joslyn Center and said that we should see if there was anything that I would like to do there. After visiting the Joslyn Center, I signed up for the lunch program and a few classes.

Do you have a favorite class?

Leiran: I like the Cardio and Strength class. I also really enjoy the Tap Dancing class.

Is there a class that you would be excited to see in an upcoming activity guide?

Leiran: I would be so excited if I saw Chinese Chess listed in the activity guide.

Do you participate in any other city events?

Leiran: I go to the Alexander Hughes Community Center and take the chair exercise classes when the classes I take here are in between sessions.

How has your overall experience with the senior program been?

Leiran: It has been a lot of fun. The staff have been friendly and helpful, and I have made friends here. We sometimes go and do things together outside of the Claremont Senior Program.

Do you have any hobbies outside of the Joslyn Center?

Leiran: I really enjoy being in nature and doing activities outdoors. I walk the Thompson Creek Trail, my family hikes near Mt Baldy around Christmas time, and I have been paragliding over the ocean.
