In this interactive four-part series, older adults will learn about healthy relationships, self-love, stress management, and general mental wellness. Presented by House of Ruth, a local domestic violence organization that is committed to providing education, resources, and support to all regardless of gender, race, or age.

Stay happy and healthy through dance! Learn official international line dances, and have fun improving your coordination, posture, motor memory, and dance skills in this class. Most of all, enjoy dancing with others! Participants are asked to wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Some line dance experience is required for the intermediate class. Instructor: Selina Chi. In this workshop we will discuss ukiyo-e-artist, Ando Hiroshige, who is considered as the last great master of that tradition. We will learn about the ukiyo-e art style and his horizontal-format landscape series. We will be using ink and watercolor to paint cherry blossoms in the ukiyo-e art style.
*A $10 materials fee (cash or check) is due to the instructor at the start of the workshop.

AARP Tax Aide 2024 – Appointments Available Soon! | |

Trained volunteers from AARP Tax Aide will be available to provide assistance to taxpayers with low to moderate income. Services will be offered by appointment at the Joslyn Center on Thursdays at the Joslyn Center beginning in February through mid-April.
Just like the previous year, taxpayers can make their appointments for tax prep services at the Joslyn Center online! Starting in mid-January, appointments will be live on the AARP Tax Aide website. Joslyn Center staff will assist those unable to book appointments online.

Public Hearings Notice - LA County Aging and Disabilities Dept. |
The County and City of Los Angeles will be providing six public hearings during the month of January to discuss vital services for older adults, adults with disabilities, and caregivers. All sessions can be joined online or in-person. Help shape the future for these groups by observing and/or providing insight at any of the six sessions.

AARP Smart Driver - Two Day Course | |

$20 for AARP members/ $25 for non-members*
This classroom-based defensive driving course is designed for persons 50 and older who are seeking to sharpen their driving skills. After eight hours of instruction, a DMV certificate will be issued entitling participants to a discount on their automobile insurance. Pre-registration is required.
*Materials fee: $25 ($20 for AARP members) in cash or check due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is a traditional part of Chinese medicine, derived from the words "qi" meaning breath or energy, and "gong" meaning work or skill. In this class, participants will learn how to coordinate physical movements with their breath through the repeated practice of exercises while focusing on relaxing the body and mind. The gentle meditative movements focus on posture and breathing. Benefits can include increased energy, circulation, clarity, and focus. Instructor: Gene Bridgham. Pre-registration is required.
As this is an outdoor class, there will be no class on rainy days or during extreme heatwaves. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring water.

Come make music with the Joslyn Jammers! This weekly congregate music class is facilitated by local musician and guitar instructor David Hostetler. Bring your guitar, ukulele, tambourine, drum, rattles, or any instrument you like—even your voice will do! Beginners and seasoned musicians alike are welcome to this FREE class. Pre-registration is required. Location: Joslyn Center.

When the transition is being made from silent films to "talkies", everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practice with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice.

The monthly senior food bank, hosted by the Senior Program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Larkin Park. LA County residents ages 60+ are invited to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides a free food kit once a month to seniors who meet income guidelines. The food kits are prepared with specific nutritional needs in mind, such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, cereals, and more! Identification with date of birth is required to register. For more information, please call (323) 234-3030.

Join us for a hot meal, social activities, music, and various recreational happenings Monday through Friday. Lunch is served at the the Joslyn Center (660 N. This program is funded, in part, by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging.
