Scam Stopper Breakfast

A panel of experts will provide information about how you can protect yourself from fraud relating to home repair, finances, identity theft, auto repair, and more. Breakfast will be served starting at 8:30 a.m., with the seminar beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. RSVP required. AARP Tax Aide 2024 – Appointments Available!

Free; appointment required



Trained volunteers from AARP Tax Aide are available to provide assistance to taxpayers with low to moderate income. Services are offered by appointment at the Joslyn Center on Thursdays through mid-April.


Taxpayers can make their appointments for tax prep services at the Joslyn Center online. Appointments are live on the AARP Tax Aide website. Joslyn Center staff will assist those unable to book appointments online.

Aging with Love Series

All of us deserve to feel safe and happy. Through this senior "wellness circle," participants are invited to explore topics in a safe, supportive space. In this interactive four-part series, older adults will learn about healthy relationships, self-love, stress management, and general mental wellness. Presented by House of Ruth, a local domestic violence organization that is committed to providing education, resources, and support to all regardless of gender, race, or age.

Citrus College

​​​​​​​​​​​​​Education doesn’t end when you leave high school or college. It’s a lifelong process. Citrus College Continuing Education provides different types of workshops, classes, seminars, activities and events to help you continue learning throughout your life.


Noncredit education supplements students'​ continued growth and skills development through classes that include basic skills, English as a Second Language (ESL), and certificates that can help students prepare for the workforce or continue their education. Noncredit courses are open entry, open exit classes. The courses are free – with no registration fee, proof of residency or prerequisites.

Part lecture and part fitness class, this course is designed to teach older adults how exercise and proper nutrition lead to good health as we age. Participants will also learn the physiological changes that occur with aging, as well as activities that help prevent falls. Citrus College presents this free, non-credit course for older adults as part of their continuing education program. Apply by filling out an application available at the Joslyn Center; final enrollment will take place with Citrus College. Participants will need an email address in order to register through Citrus College.

St. Patrick's Day Dance

Students from the Artsy Fartsy Club at Claremont High School are excited to lead bi-weekly arts and crafts projects, such as quick-dry clay, string art, and crafts using natural elements. Tierra del Sol Workshops

Both experienced and first-time artists are invited to participate in these one-day workshops, where different art techniques and mediums are explored each session. Participants are provided with art materials, a demonstration by experienced arts educators, and step by step guidance throughout the process. *A $10 materials fee (cash or check) is due to the instructor at the time of the workshop. This series is provided by Tierra del Sol Foundation, an organization that provides people with disabilities pathways to employment, education, and the arts. Pre-registration is required. AARP Smart Driver - One Day Renewal Course

$20 for AARP members/ $25 for non-members*


This classroom-based defensive driving course is designed for persons 50 and older who are seeking to sharpen their driving skills and who have previously completed the full two-day course. After five hours of instruction, a DMV certificate will be issued entitling participants to a discount on their automobile insurance. 


*Materials fee: $25 ($20 for AARP members) in cash or check due to the instructor on the day of the class.

Joslyn & Blaisdell Closure Dates

In observance of President's Day, the Joslyn and Blaisdell Community Centers will be closed on Monday, February 19, 2024. They will resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, February 20.

LA Regional Senior Food Bank

February 8, 2024 (2nd Thursdays)

Larkin Park

The monthly senior food bank, hosted by the Senior Program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Larkin Park. LA County residents ages 60+ are invited to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides a free food kit once a month to seniors who meet income guidelines. The food kits are prepared with specific nutritional needs in mind, such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, cereals, and more! Identification with date of birth is required to register. For more information, please call (323) 234-3030.

The Phone Assurance Line - PAL

Social connection is so important to our overall well-being, yet many older adults who live on their own report feeling lonely and isolated, and Claremont has a high population of people over the age of 60. Those who cannot leave their homes without assistance due to physical challenges such as vision impairment or trouble with mobility are hit particularly hard.


Fortunately, the City of Claremont’s Senior Program partners with AgingNext to provide PAL—the Phone Assurance Line—for those who would like a friendly caller to check in and chat on a regular basis. If you would like to enroll in this program, want more information, or would like to volunteer to call seniors who need more social connection, please contact Janice Masters, Resource Specialist for AgingNext, at 909-399-5488 or janice@agingnext.org

Join us for a hot meal, social activities, music, and various recreational happenings Monday through Friday. Lunch is served at the the Joslyn Center (660 N. Mountain Ave.) at 11:30 a.m. and at Blaisdell Community Center (440 S. College Ave.) at 12:00 p.m. First come, first served. No reservations required.


This program is funded, in part, by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging.

*A voluntary donation of $2 is suggested for adults 60+.
