On July 26th, the Claremont Senior Program held a fun-filled summer event called "Music on the Patio", where participants enjoyed live music, food, and camaraderie. Thank you, Mick Rhodes and the Hard Eight, for rocking the show!

Save the Date! - Afternoon at the Opera

Join us for a special opera experience! Enjoy a live performance by the Vineyard Touring Opera Company, which will be performing a medley of modern and classical songs. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and beverages during intermission, as well as a chance to mingle with the opera singers. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the occasion.

Tierra Del Sol Workshops

Wednesdays, August 14 & August 28, 2024

12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

$10 materials fee*


Both experienced and first-time artists are invited to participate in these one-day workshops, where different art techniques and mediums are explored each session.


This series is provided by Tierra del Sol Foundation, an organization that provides people with disabilities pathways to employment, education, and the arts. Participants are provided with art materials, a demonstration by experienced arts educators, and step by step guidance throughout the process.


Expressionist Portrait Workshop


Wednesday, August 14, 2024


During this workshop, participants will be learning about contemporary expressionist artist, Michael Ramsauer. He is a German painter who primarily composes semi-abstract expressionist painting with his central themes ranging from everyday situations to nudes, still lifes and mythical expressions. We will be experimenting with colors and expressive brush strokes.  


Impressionist Landscape Painting


Wednesday, August 28, 2024


During this workshop participants will learn about Tierra Del Sol artist Vicente H. Vicente has been in Tierra for 13 years and has advanced his art skills in ceramics, colored pencils, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Participants will be following an instructed step-by-step led by Vicente. They will learn how to paint a landscape with acrylic paint in his impressionist style.

 


*A $10 materials fee (cash or check) is due to the instructor at the start of the workshop.

Bereavement Support Group

The Bereavement Support Group hosted by VNAcare meets at Joslyn Center each Thursday. Experienced and trained facilitators lead this free group to offer support, education, and a chance to connect with others who have lost a loved one. The group exists to provide hope and comfort in the grief journey through the experience of a supportive community that gives space and time to process feelings of loss to bring healing.

Pinochle

Tuesdays

Come play pinochle, a trick-taking ace ten-card game, typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. Bring your friends and enjoy some friendly competition!

Fifth Avenue socialite Irene Bullock needs a "forgotten man" to win a scavenger hunt, and no one fits that description more than Godfrey Park. Irene hires Godfrey as a servant for her riotously unhinged family, to the chagrin of her spoiled sister, Cornelia, who tries her best to get Godfrey fired. As Irene falls for her new butler, Godfrey turns the tables and teaches the frivolous Bullocks a lesson or two.

After years of working as an ad executive at a sports magazine, Dan Foreman (Dennis Quaid) is demoted and replaced with Carter Duryea (Topher Grace), a rising star in the business world who is young enough to be Dan's son. Dan's life is further complicated when he learns his wife is pregnant and Carter is dating his daughter, Alex (Scarlett Johansson).

LA Regional Senior Food Bank

The monthly senior food bank, hosted by the Senior Program in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, takes place on the second Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Larkin Park. LA County residents ages 60+ are invited to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which provides a free food kit once a month to seniors who meet income guidelines. The food kits are prepared with specific nutritional needs in mind, such as meats, canned fruits and vegetables, dry milk, cereals, and more! Identification with date of birth is required to register. For more information, please call (323) 234-3030.

Join us for a hot meal, social activities, music, and various recreational happenings Monday through Friday. Lunch is served at the Joslyn Center (660 N. Mountain Ave.) at 11:30 a.m. and at Blaisdell Community Center (440 S. College Ave.) at 12:00 p.m. First come, first served. No reservations required.


This program is funded, in part, by the Los Angeles County Area Agency on Aging.

*A voluntary donation of $2 is suggested for adults 60+.

Phone Assurance Line Program - Participants Wanted!

The PAL (Phone Assurance Line) Program is available to seniors who are:

· Age 60 or older, or a disabled person of any age

· Claremont residents


Volunteers make daily telephone calls to eligible seniors who live alone to offer socialization and monitor their well-being. In addition, these seniors will have easy access to the services provided by the Claremont Senior Program, which contributes to a better quality of life.


Seniors interested in participating in program may contact resource specialist, Janice Masters (from AgingNext), at janice@agingnext.org or call 909-621-9900 (x238). Additionally, she may be reached at the Joslyn Center at 909-399-5488.

Pomona Valley Transportation Authority

Pomona Valley Transportation Authority (PVTA) offers transportation programs for the cities of Claremont, La Verne, Pomona and San Dimas in California.


Programs include the Pomona Valley Get About program for seniors and disabled, Claremont Dial-a-Ride for all ages, Pomona Group Services, and San Dimas Dial-a-Cab for all ages.

Inland Valley Hope Partners - Food Pantry

The Inland Valley Hope Partners' Food Security Program helps some 4,000 no and low-income residents of the Inland Valley access high-quality, healthy food resources each month with five program centers located in Pomona, Ontario, San Dimas, and Claremont, plus two once/month food distributions in Upland and Chino.


The Claremont location is located at the Joslyn Center's Annex building (660 N Mountain Ave) and is open every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
