July 2023

“Strong women aren’t born; they’re forged in the fires they’ve had to walk through. They’re warriors with hearts of gold.”  - Silver Ravenwolf

Happy summer!

This month we honor and celebrate strong-minded young women around the globe who work to make our world better. These are young women who have their own firm attitudes and opinions and are not easily influenced into changing their beliefs.

On July 12th the world celebrates National Malala Day in honor of global activist Malala Yousafzai. Many of us recall the day in October 2012 when she was shot by a Taliban gunman who was trying to stop her activism supporting the education of women and children in her native country, Pakistan. Malala recovered and renewed her commitment to women’s empowerment, becoming the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate for her strength and courage.

World Nature Conservation Day on July 28 reminds us to address global challenges including climate change and security of food and water, a challenge taken on by Greta Thunberg. Her activism began in her home country, Sweden, and her influence expanded globally through protests, speeches including the 2019 World Economic Forum, and her lone transatlantic voyages. She has taken on world leaders in her work to mitigate climate change.

At Chrysalis, we know that when we support girls, they become strong and contributing women – supporting themselves, their families, and the causes they believe in. Chrysalis Scholarships help young women achieve these goals by completing their post-secondary education. Join us to meet and celebrate this year’s scholarship recipients on Wednesday, July 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Holmes Murphy, 2727 Grand Prairie Parkway in Waukee - RSVP here.
