Principal's Message

Dear Saint Bernadette Catholic School community,

We have had a faith-filled Lent focused on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Each day during Lent we prayed the “Act of Contrition”, asking God to forgive us our sins and resolving to do better. We tried to make Jesus visible and bring Gospel values to life through our words and actions.

Throughout March we focused on kindness and “filling one’s bucket”. On morning announcements our 8th graders gave tips on how to be a better friend or how to build one another up. Mr. Peace came to school to talk to PreK-8th grade about the importance of recognizing others for their heart. He stressed that we are all miracles created by God and that we have a choice and should find the courage to do what is right. Today, Holy Thursday, our 5th grade students re-enacted the Last Supper for our PreK-8th grade students. Then, our 8th graders led the Living Stations. Also, our PreK-8th grade students shared the Good News that Jesus is Risen with our friends at Greenspring Senior Living by making them Easter cards.

This week we remember that Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us. We take time to reflect on the goodness of the Lord. I feel truly blessed to be a servant leader for the Saint Bernadette community. Thank you for entrusting us with your precious children. May you and your family be filled with joy and grace this Easter.

Sincerely,

Kathleen A. Burgess, Ph.D.

Month of the Military Child

Prekindergarten Spots Still Available

We still have a few spots available in our prekindergarten classes. If you know of a family looking for a prekindergarten program, please have them reach out to Heidi Thomes, Director of Admissions, at registrar@stbernschool.org.

Purple Up for Military Children

April is the month of the military child, and purple is the official color of the military child. Purple is a combination of all the colors of the U.S. Armed Forces: Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard blues, Army green, and Marine Corps red. On Monday, April 15, 2024, we will show our support by wearing a purple shirt. Faculty, staff, and students who Purple Up may wear jeans. We would like to see 100% participation. Wear purple to show support and appreciation to our military connected students!

Photos of Military Family Members Requested

April is the month of the military child, and we would like to celebrate by creating a "Wall of Heroes" to honor all of our family members who are serving or who have served in the military.

We are still collecting photos. Please submit up to two pictures per family (you may include direct family members or even extended family members, such as aunts, uncles, and grandparents). Photos should be no larger than 4x6 inches and include your child's name and teacher on the back, so we may return the picture to you. Please do not submit original photographs, as we will be hanging the pictures in a high-traffic area of the school and cannot guarantee that the pictures will not be damaged. Please submit photos in an envelope labeled to Mrs. Thomes-Admissions.

In addition to the picture(s), please include the following information directly on the back of the picture or on a post-it note:

Name

Rank of the military member(s)

Branch of service

Dates of service (which can be approximate)

Student Name

Example:

Joseph Burgan

CW4 (retired)

U.S. Army

1964-1987

Student: Mrs. Thomes, Admissions

Thank you for your help, and we are grateful for your service and sacrifice.

Your participation in PTO fundraisers, events, and direct support continues to help us support the school and our overall Saint Bernadette Community..

Carpool Reminders

Carpool regulations

While we have requested a police officer to direct traffic before and after school, one may not be available. For this reason, it is imperative that everyone follow the guidelines in the Parent/Student handbook. To ensure the safety of our children and community please review the following reminders:

  1. Refrain from using your cell phones during carpool arrival and dismissal;
  2. Students are allowed to exit their cars when teachers are present;
  3. Students may be dropped off between 7:40 a.m. -8:00 a.m.;
  4. Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. need to be escorted by a parent to the front office;
  5. Please drive slowly (5 m.p.h.);
  6. Follow the traffic flow and do not cut across lanes in the parking lot.

Thank you for driving safely.
