Dear Friends,
It is so important to remember those who have helped form us as a congregation, whom we loved and who loved us. Muriel Finnegan was one of those people. She crossed over recently after a long illness. The following is what her husband Peter, wrote of her . . .
"Muriel passed away on April 3, 2024 in Santa Fe, New Mexico after fighting complications from vascular dementia and pneumonia caused by a stroke occurring in 2017. Muriel and her husband Peter were faithful congregants from 1993 to their relocating in 2016. She was in the choir, Vestry, parish secretary of the Vestry, ran various committees and helped supervise volunteers going to Mississippi in 2005 helping with Katrina Relief work. She played her guitar during offertory during the summer. Muriel was a delegate casting her vote for the late Bishop Thomas Shaw, and was part of the decision making group of Reverend Beth Dyson and Barbara Whitman in the hiring of organist Sean Glennon. She had many friends at St. Andrews. She was received into St. Andrews in 1996 and was married here in 1998 with services being conducted by the late Rev. Claude Smith.
She loved to travel covering all 50 states and several foreign countries.
She practiced law for the Board of Medicine and Children and Families winning numerous awards working in service to the community.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. An internment date in the Memorial Garden has not been set but plans are to have a Memorial service with burial at St. Andrews at a future date."
Blessings and love—He is Risen!
Pattie

In 1974, at a church in Philadelphia, a group of eleven women were ordained to the Episcopal priesthood at a time when only men were eligible for ordination. This story is told in the compelling new documentary “The Philadelphia Eleven.”
DATE AND LOCATION:
The feature documentary film will be screened at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 17 Church Street, Hanover, MA on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 7 p.m. in the parish hall with an open discussion of the movie and the place of women in the church today to follow.
TICKET INFORMATION:
Attendance is free and open to the public. A free-will donation will be accepted at the doors. Space is limited. We ask that you reserve a seat by (1) putting your name on the reservation sheet at St. Andrew’s before/after Sunday 9:30 a.m. services; (2) calling the office at 781-826-2062; or (3) using the reservation form at this LINK.
HOSTING:
As a joyful and loving community “Centered in God, Focused on Others”, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, founded in 1725, is proud to present this documentary. It is particularly appropriate for our parish to bring this story to the community this year. The Rev. Patricia Handloss (“Pattie”), our current interim rector, recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of her ordination as an Episcopal priest. Considering the profound impact of that event 50 years ago, Pattie shared her memories: “Starting in 1970, I worked for the ordination of women with the Rev. Carter Haywood and the late Rev. Susan Hiatt as well as most of the Philadelphia 11. We traveled across the county advocating for the ordination of women called by God to be priests. Those women, my sisters, walked with me on my journey to ordination. Attending their ordination was one of the joys of my life. I was filled with deep gratitude for their bravery and vision.”

More information . . .
Paul & I walked in last year’s Mother’s Day Walk to benefit the Louis D Brown Peace Institute because of the increase in gun violence and mass shootings throughout the country. I found the need to do something!
It was not the first time we had participated in the walk. After the shooting at Sandy Hill Elementary School in 2012, Bishop Tom encouraged groups from the churches in the diocese to form teams and walk. Ama Beth created a team and we joined her. It was a powerful experience to listen to and walk with people affected by gun violence.
So in 2023, when I was looking for something positive to do to fight the darkness, I returned to the Mother’s Day Walk. Listening to the speakers last year and learning what the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute does was incredibly moving.
The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute provides immediate tangible support for families of homicide victims. The Survivors Outreach Services provide emotional and practical support to the survivors. The practical support includes helping with burial and other support. The SOS team is in contact with the family of any murder victim in MA within 24 hours.
The Institute also has a community reentry program to assist those previously incarcerated integrate back into their family and community.
Check out their website to learn more about their important work.
https://ldbpeaceinstitute.org
If you are not able to join us for the walk, we hope you would consider making a donation to help them continue this important work.

Thank you,
