The CFA VOICE is the monthly newsletter for Coalition of Franchisee Associations member franchisees. Representing OVER 46,000 franchisees owning over 118,000 franchises and employing over 2.6 million people, CFA is the Voice of the Franchisee.

A LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Dear Franchisees,

I’d like to start this month’s issue of the CFA Voice by welcoming the CFA’s latest franchise association and board member, Bill Mishkin, president of the Independent Association of Home Instead Franchisees (IAOHIF)! We are thrilled to welcome Bill and the members of the IAOHIF to the CFA.

In 2007, the CFA was created to bring together franchisee association leaders dedicated to the development and growth of their own organizations and provide a forum for its members to share best practices, knowledge and resources for the benefit of the entire franchisee population.

It is franchise associations like Home Instead that help the CFA to leverage our collective strengths for the benefit of the franchisee community. By adding an additional 322 franchise owners, 300+ locations and over 21,000 employees to the CFA’s membership, our voice just got a little louder, and I am sure with Bill’s contributions to the CFA Board, our leadership has gained strength and industry knowledge.

IFA, Coalition of Franchisee Associations Comment on I Heart Mac and Cheese Ruling

In response to the State of Indiana suspending the I Heart Mac & Cheese brand’s right to sell franchises in the state due to violations of disclosure laws, the International Franchisee Association (IFA) and the Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) issued a joint statement of support of this enforcement action. IFA President and CEO Matt Haller and CFA Association General Manager Amy Mancuso said, “IFA and CFA support accurate and complete presale disclosures to prospective franchisees to provide the opportunity for thorough due diligence of a franchise system before choosing to purchase a franchise. We further support enforcement of franchise disclosure laws and commend the State of Indiana Securities Division’s protection of the franchise model in suspending I Heart Mac & Cheese’s right to sell franchises within the state due to violation of Indiana franchise disclosure laws.”

Save the Date

The CFA is planning to host a fly-in on Nov. 7, in New Jersey. We will be looking to bring in guest speakers from the Federal Trade Commission as well as political speakers who are dealing with issues affecting franchises on the state and local level. Complete details will be available in a few weeks so please be sure to check your emails regularly for additional information.

If you are local to New England, we hope you will join us for the CFA one-day event in New Jersey. Also, don’t forget to send us your comments, feedback and stories as we are looking for franchisee members to be featured in the CFA Voice. Afterall, this is your newsletter, and we want to hear from you so please email us at info@thecfainc.com.

Warmest regards,

John Motta

CFA Chairman

CFA IN THE NEWS

Thank you to all the franchisees who responded to CFA’s Action Alert and contacted their senators to urge them to support the Credit Card Competition Act (CCCA). Despite strong efforts by you and other merchants, the language was not included in the senate version of the defense bill.

Fortunately, Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS), a champion of CCCA, has secured a commitment that the Senate will vote on the bill before the end of the year.

Now that we have this commitment, we know the big banks and credit card companies will fight even harder to try to block CCCA. The CFA will continue our efforts on Capitol Hill and alert you when further action is needed.
