"The Call" is a little early this week in order to accommodate schedules and to get important information to you . . .

Dear friends,

My heart is full. Loss is hard but being held in love makes loss much easier.

I know Cathy loved it here and your kindness to Cathy was wonderful.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated here by Dane. My dear friend Amy will be assisting and preaching.

Thank you for your care.

Blessings and love,

The funeral Mass for Cathy Gately will take place at St. Andrew's on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 1 p.m.

Dear members of St. Andrew's community,

After months and months - dare I say it - years, of prayer, supplications, and holding faith and hope, she is here. Our new rector!

On behalf of your tireless search committee, we ask you to now give great thanks to the Spirit, and to welcome The Reverend Amy Whitcomb Slemmer, Esq. to our parish. She will officially begin in August.

Please give her the warmest of welcomes, the hallmark of our parish.

With much gratitude to all, and to Amy for hearing the call,

Your Search Committee

Dear St. Andrew's,

I am so honored to be chosen as your next Rector, and I am very much looking forward to joining you. Your story, your history and your perseverance inspire me, and I am excited for us to get to know each other. I truly appreciate the wonderful job the amazing members of your Search Committee and Vestry all did representing the St. Andrew's community throughout our interview process, and by all who handled the herculean task of scheduling our myriad meetings and calls with patience and grace. Each one of them has my profound gratitude.

None of this would have been possible without your extraordinary Interim Rector, my colleague and the force of nature that is The Reverend Patricia Handloss. Pattie's love of the St. Andrew's community and her time with you made her a wonderful representative, evangelist and champion! I'm pleased we can all together support Pattie with our prayers as she experiences multiple significant life transitions.

I am SO looking forward to joining The Saint Andrew's Community/Family on August 1st!

God's Grace and Peace,

We have learned that long time and beloved parishioner Elizabeth (Betsy) Smith passed away in her sleep on Monday night. Betsy was our previous choir director and wife of the late Rev. Dr. Claude Smith. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's at a future date. Please keep Betsy and her family in your prayers.

The Reverend Patricia Handloss is scheduled to spend her last Sunday with us as rector on July 28. We want to celebrate and honor Pattie’s ministry with us on that day with a coffee hour/reception. If you want to contribute food to the reception, please get in touch with Janet Keane at or see Janet after church on Sunday.

Here are some of the ways you can be a part of this amazing day:

  • Donate new or gently used WARM WEATHER clothing (please no sweaters or winter coats), hangers, and accessories (belts, handbags, scarves etc.) for the Boutique
  • Help with setup on the evening prior
  • Come to the beach or serve at the church
  • Make food for the cookout
  • Work the Boutique
  •  Be part of the cleanup crew on the day of the event

Donations can be brought to the Parish Hall and placed on the stage on Sundays or during office hours.

Please contact Michelle Joyce (781-504-5907)

or Carol Scott (617-347-3647) with any questions.
