Your Brightwood PTA Monthly News & Updates

Presidents Message:

Dear Parents, Teachers, and Friends of Brightwood,

Welcome back returning families, teachers, and staff! To Kindergarten and new families: WELCOME to the Brightwood Community!

Brightwood is a wonderful elementary school with dedicated teachers, devoted staff, and an invaluable administration who provide an excellent learning experience. And our parent community is like no other!

My name is Duly Wong, your 2022-2023 PTA President. This is my second year serving as president on the PTA Executive Board. This year, as President, my goal is to strengthen our sense of community through more active parent participation in school meetings, programs and events. I want to encourage both returning families as well as new families to take advantage of the many volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.

I encourage all of you to renew or start a new PTA membership for only $10 per person. Your membership gives you a voice at our PTA meetings, entitles you to vote on important school issues and, most importantly, it benefits our children. It demonstrates to your child the importance you place on education, volunteering and community involvement. You will meet other parents and teachers (like I mentioned, a parent community like no other!), and by attending monthly meetings, you can provide direct input to enhance our school.

Some of the important annual programs and events sponsored by the PTA include the Youth Fair, Fall and Spring Book Fair, Movie Nights, Field Trips, Student Enrichment Programs, , the Holiday Boutique, Talent Show, and the Fun Run and Read-a-thon. In addition, our PTA provides essential items like academic software, technology upgrades, and teachers with supplies and materials.

To get started and stay up to date on school happenings, please be sure to do the following:

Join the Brightwood PTA

Visit our website www.BrightwoodPTA.com

  • Follow us on Facebook and Instagram
  • Attend our monthly PTA meetings, starting with next month, Wednesday, September 14th, 7pm in the Cafetorium

We have something for everyone and I would love for you to get involved. If you have questions or want to figure out what opportunity is the best fit for you, please contact us at brightwoodelementarypta@gmail.com.

Have a great school year!

Duly Wong

PTA President

8th Grade In-N-Out cookout fundraiser

Support our Eighth Graders

We are excited to announce that 8th Grade has won the In-N-Out Cookout Fundraiser lottery. This is a great opportunity to raise money that will go towards various eighth grade promotion activities. We will get to keep 75% of the money raised and 25% will be donated to the In-N-Out Burger Foundation to help support non-profits that work to serve abused and/or neglected children in local communities.

We need your help to make the fundraiser a success! Our goal is to sell 800 meal tickets and each ticket costs $5.00. Each meal includes a hamburger (with or without cheese), drink, and chips*.

Please download our order form (https://sites.google.com/view/brightwood8thgrade/fundraisers/in-n-out-fundraiser

and fill out the bottom tear-off portion and return it back to your child’s teacher, along with payment by August 24, 2022. Cash payments only please. Tickets will be sent home with students on August 29th.

The In-N-Out Burger Cookout truck will be in front of Brightwood School on August 31st from 5-7:30 pm for meal pick-up. Must present pre-purchased meal ticket during pick-up. No tickets will be sold on August 31st.

Thank you for your help and support!

Back to School Night

We are excited to have Back to School Night back in-person this year. In an effort to accommodate families with multiple children, each class/grade will offer two identical sessions during BTSN. Adults only please. It is not recommended to bring your children to this event. Teachers will share classroom procedures, information and policies. This is NOT a time to discuss individual students. Teachers will have a sign-up for parent conferences available for parent conference week (the week of Sept. 19th). We look forward to seeing you there!

Brightwood Yearbook school year 2022-2023

We’re very excited to announce that we are trying to bring back the Brightwood Yearbook this year. Last year was a success.  It’s been awhile since we’ve had a school-wide yearbook and we can't do this project without your help. We are asking for help with submitting photos that we can use for the yearbook. If we have an event, such as Spirit Day, we ask that you email us a photo if you'd like to be featured in the yearbook. You can easily submit the photo* by emailing us at:

BrightwoodSchoolYearbook@gmail.com

Please label each email accordingly. ie. Subject: Crazy Hair Day. When submitting photos please keep it to a minimum. We do not need several photos of the same child in different poses. Pick your best and send it our way! *note: all photos submitted are not guaranteed to make the yearbook

We need YOU! Join the Brightwood Team!
We are looking for community members who are interested in joining the Brightwood team. We are in great need of classified noon duty staff. Filling these positions would assist us in keeping students safe during unstructured time. Like many industries, we are facing a labor shortage in some positions and would appreciate you spreading the word to those who may be interested. Details of available positions and the online application can be found at www.EdJoin.org.

Don’t Forget! Bell Schedule

To address overcrowding and long lines during lunch on short Wednesdays and minimum days the school day will end 30 minutes earlier with a grab and go lunch students eat at home. Please see attached updated bell schedule.

Executive Board led by new president, Duly Wong and the rest of our 2022-2023 Board members.
