A Message From Our Founder:
It's amazing how fast a year can fly by. Thanksgiving has passed and we are caught up in the holiday season. Fortunately, The Book Fairies has already received a number of wonderful gifts.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals on Long Island (AFPLI) granted The Book Fairies with $2,500 for our Community Book Fair program. Steve Cohen from Macmillan Publishing delivered 4 pallets of beautiful brand new books that were distributed as holiday gifts for our receiving students. Finally, Giving Tuesday was a huge success with The Book Fairies exceeding our goal of $2,000 in one day.
Roosevelt's Centennial Avenue Elementary School saw over 8,000 high interest, age appropriate books enter their school to build and supplement classroom libraries.
As we look to the year ahead, The Book Fairies has our eyes set on the 1 million book donated mark. With over 100 boxes a of books pouring into the warehouse each week, we should attain our goal by early spring.
Please have a safe, happy, and healthy holiday and New Year.
Until next time, keep reading and sharing your stories!
Sincerely,
Amy

Centennial Avenue Teacher Book Fair!
Thanks to a grant from Daughters of Wisdom, The Book Fairies hosted a Free Book Fair for the teachers of Centennial Avenue Elementary School in Roosevelt. Forty-five teachers shopped from over 8,000 books to hand select age appropriate books to fill their classroom libraries.
"
I am getting so much positive feedback from the teachers. This event made the teachers feel valued and enhanced our positive school climate. We thank you for extending to us this wonderful opportunity to build our classroom libraries and love for reading."
--Principal Barbara Solomon

The Book Fairies win at AFPLI!
The Book Fairies won the top grant at the Long Island Association of Fundraising Professionals Philanthropy Day session: “Inside a Grantmaker’s Mind". The grant will be used to host the January 14th Community Book Fair for teachers and nonprofits.
During a typical book fair, between 12,000-14,000 books are donated in 3.5 hours. It's a beautiful event to support literacy initiatives across metropolitan New York.

Teacher Testimonial
"The Book Fairies has transformed reading in my classroom. The first time I went to the warehouse in June was one of the happiest moments I’ve had as a teacher. With each book I got my hands on I was able to imagine the exact child in my room who would be gushing over the new book. Reading volume has skyrocketed, but more importantly my children have come to see themselves as readers."
--Elizabeth O’Driscoll and Room 314
