History documents that it was Sara Fitzgerald that envisioned turning a building into a nightclub that would present the world's greatest artists. She bought the building, remodeled it, and then presented such acts as Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Albert Collins, and Lightnin' Hopkins just to name a few and since then it has not stopped. In fact after his second performance on the 30 foot main stage Sara has already added the name of world class bluesman Kenny Neal to her club's illustrious history.
A.D. Washington, a veteran R&B/hip-hop record promotion executive, died Nov. 22 in Little Rock, Arkansas of undetermined causes during a brief hospitalization. He was 77. Funeral services are pending.
Born on July 10, 1940 in Scott, Arkansas, Washington attended St. Bartholomew's High School before receiving a bachelor of social science degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He went on to earn a master's degree in public administration at the University of Central Arkansas at Conway. That led to Washington joining the Arkansas Housing and Urban Development department under then-Governor Bill Clinton in the '80s. He segued into the music industry with a job at Stax Records before relocating to Los Angeles to work at MCA.
Washington was the longest-serving chairman of the Living Legends Foundation, guiding the non-profit music industry organization from 1998-2011. He was also a life member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and the NAACP.
Washington is survived by his father William Ferguson, son Kevin Jones, sisters Classie Ferguson and Irma Ferguson and a host of extended family and friends. His wife Elese and his mother Ida Belle preceded Washington in death. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

KCUR's Band Of The Week: T.J. Hooker-Taylor
Son of the blues legend Johnnie Taylor, the Kansas City-based
T.J. Hooker-Taylor performs at the annual Thanksgiving breakfast dance at the National Guard Armory in Kansas City, Kansas.
Organizers claim this year's party is the 68th annual Thanksgiving blues dance in Kansas City. Many of the revelers wear their holiday finest and sip on premium liquor (libations are B.Y.O.B.; a breakfast buffet is included with the price of admission).
Taylor, whose mother is Mary Ann Hooker, has upheld his father's legacy with a series of entertaining soul-blues albums, and he's likely to interpret a few of his father's songs on Thursday. (Johnnie Taylor's hits include 1968's "Who's Making Love," 1973's "Cheaper to Keep Her" and 1976's "Disco Lady." He died in 2000 and is buried in Kansas City.)

The Blues Foundation Announces The 2018 Keeping The Blues Alive Awards
Each year, The Blues Foundation presents the Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) Awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Blues world. The Blues Foundation will present the 2018 KBA Awards during a recognition lunch Friday, January 19, 2018, at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. The KBA ceremony will be part of the International Blues Challenge (IBC) weekend of events. The 2018 IBC weekend schedule can be found
here.
Unlike the Blues Music Awards, the award recognizing the past year's best in recordings and performance voted on by thousands of The Blues Foundation's members, the KBAs are awarded to non-performers strictly on the basis of merit by a select panel of Blues professionals. Noted educator, author, journalist, and KBA Chairman Art Tipaldi notes "The KBA may be awarded for the recipient's work in the past year but most often reflects a lifetime of work; we don't view the recipient as the winner of a 'best of the year' category. Consistent with this philosophy, the committee generally refrains from awarding the KBA to an individual or organization more than once. Rather, we select a new deserving winner each year, except in rare cases when a significant period of time has elapsed since the first award."
Affiliated organizations, past KBA recipients and members of The Blues Foundation's Board of Directors are eligible to submit nominations. If you know a deserving person, seek out one of those who is authorized to nominate and help them make the submission.

Federal regulators yesterday unveiled a plan that would give Internet providers broad powers to determine what websites and online services their customers can see and use. The Washington Post reports this now sets the stage for a crucial vote next month at the FCC that could reshape the entire digital ecosystem. The agency's Republican chairman, Ajit Pai has made undoing the government's net neutrality rules one of his top priorities, and Tuesday's move hands a win to big broadband companies such as AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.
As The Post ominously notes, "Pai is taking aim at regulations that were approved just two years ago under President Barack Obama that sought to make sure all Internet content, whether from big or small companies, would be treated equally by Internet providers." This crucial decision will be put to a vote at the agency's Dec. 14 meeting in Washington. It is expected to pass, as the GOP controls three of the commission's five seats.
In a release, Pai said his proposal would prevent the government from "micromanaging the Internet." In place of the existing rules, he added, the FCC would "simply require Internet service providers to be transparent about their practices." The proposal would also shift some enforcement responsibility to the Federal Trade Commission, which can sue companies whose actions do not reflect the commitments or statements they have made to the public.
Not surprisingly, those aforementioned giant Internet providers welcomed the FCC announcement - in a statement, Verizon said, "We're very encouraged by Chairman Pai's announcement today that the FCC will move forward next month to restore the successful light-touch regulatory framework for internet services."
