They’ll Know Us by Our Love
Sunday in worship we sang the song, They’ll Know We are Christians by our Love. It’s always been one of my favorites because it speaks of the Body of Christ working together for justice, integrity, and love for all through the power of the Holy Trinity. When our actions are of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, then our actions are of love. There are many ways that we can let people know we are Christians by our love. Think about it for a minute. We show our love through kindness and compassion. We show our love by volunteering to help in the community. We show our love through different ministries that we participate in like the Backpack Blessings, the Felician Center, and Kingstree Community Youth. And of course we show our love in the way we help and care for people during their time of need. Why? I can think of two reasons. Out of gratitude for the love and grace that was freely given to us by Jesus Christ, we respond by showing love to others. And we also love because Jesus commanded us to love one another.
In the next two weeks, we have an opportunity to show our love for one of our own who is in need. We have been praying for Rebecca Barrineau for several years as she fights cancer. She has entered a new study in Virginia and has to make weekly trips for tests and treatments. Unfortunately, this study does not cover the travel expenses or accommodations. For that reason, the Session has approved a Love Offering to help offset the costs. If you are able and feel so led, we invite you to show your love for someone we care for through a financial gift. Checks can be made out to the church and designated to Rebecca. We will collect this offering until June 12th. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give me a call. And whatever do, and wherever you go, let people know you are a Christian by your love!
Peace, Josie
