The Pastor's Ponderings



I cannot think of a better way to start the Lenten season than by sharing in the ‘Come and See’ retreat day on March 4th at St. Agnes. They have a secluded community room that provides an excellent environment to pray and reflect together. The focus of the retreat in this year of the Eucharistic Revival is ‘One Bread, One Body’. It begins with breakfast at 9:30am and will conclude

with Mass at 4:30pm.



The insanity of the world we live in today grows out of the tug and pull of constant everyday obligations. At the end of the day is there anything we can salvage from the rat race of events that nurtures our humanity? Was there anything that touched upon the deeper significance and meaning of our lives? I believe that the violence and dysfunction in our world comes from this lack of connection with our deeper self.  Read more...

First Friday Forum



The First Friday Forum of Lorain County will present Elyria Catholic Students speaking on their faith and how to keep it vibrant in the future on Friday, March 3. Lunch begins at 11:30. Speaker at Noon at the Spitzer Conference Ctr. of Lorain County Community College, 1005 N. Abbe Rd. Elyria. Reservations need to be received by 6pm Mon., Feb. 27. Senior Luncheon


The next Senior Luncheon will be held on Monday, March 13 at 12:00 noon in the Weigand Room. The cost of the luncheon is $6.00. Please call your reservation to Rita at 323-0140 by Wed., Mar. 8. Time will be available for those who wish to stay and play bingo. We look forward to a great meal, sharing new ideas and hope that you will bring a friend with you.

Handbell Choir


St. Mary is looking for all ages of those who want to join a HANDBELL CHOIR! Don't be discouraged if you can't read music. Please call our Parish office 440-323-5539 to register.

Save the Date for the "Come and See" Lent Retreat, which will be held at St. Agnes on March 4. "Come and See" the Lord for a day on your Lenten journey in fellowship with the community of our sister parishes.

Wavemaker Program

Students learn more about water, how heavy water can be if you have to carry it from a well, and upcycling old t-shirts and beads made from recycled plastic.

SMS Spirit Wear Day

SMS enjoyed a Pep Rally featuring our CYO basketball players and cheerleaders and Lake Erie Crushers Reading Program Kick Off with Stomper.  Students will read books to earn a ticket to a Crushers’ game this summer.


The Cougar Kindness Club led the students in a dance party which included line dances, the Hokey Pokey around the gym and Conga Dance finale.

Chocolate Fund Raiser

Parents Club is having a Suzin L Chocolate Fundraiser. The school will receive 30% of the sales made on this program. Order Forms are in the school office or contact one of our school families to order.

  • Money and orders will be due 3/15/23
  • Make check payments to St. Mary PTU
  • Orders will be delivered to school by 4/5/23 in time for Easter
  • No late orders can be taken due to orders being handmade
