INDIAN WOODS PARK

PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS

The City will soon begin facilitating improvements to the Indian Woods neighborhood park, which will include new ADA-accessible playground equipment and an improved picnic area. Additionally, the neighborhood identified needing an improved connection between the upper and lower tiers of the park, which is included as a trail with steps.

The City received a Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) grant for $50,000 with a General Fund Match of $50,000. Additional funds are from the Brown Bridge Trust Park Improvement Fund (BBTPIF) dollars to bring the total project funding to $210,868. 

In 2022, the City Commission adopted their Goals and Objectives and identified connecting people with nature as a strategic priority with a goal to provide safe and accessible public spaces where people may recreate, socialize, or enjoy being alone in nature.

INTERACTIVE STREET CLOSURE MAP

While the City is in the thick of the construction season, easily accessing what roads have closures or partial closures may help while you are on your daily commute.  

The City's website features a number of interactive maps, including street and sidewalk closures. The Road Closure Map features the most current full closures, traffic restrictions, and City authorized events within public spaces.

The webpage below features the map and the most current Public Service Announcements issued involving short-term and long-term street and/or sidewalk closures.

ABSENTEE BALLOT MAILING

Due to the passage of the statewide ballot proposal in 2018, all eligible and registered voters in Michigan may now request an absentee ballot without providing a reason.

City City Clerk's Office will mail Absentee Ballots for the August 2, 2022 primary election to those requested via application on June 29, 2022. Absentee Ballots can be returned by mail, in-person at the City Clerk's Office, or by using the Red Drop box at the Governmental Center. Absentee Ballots must be received by 8 pm on election day.

For those voting in person, precincts will be open 7 am to 8 pm on August 2, 2022.  

FITNESS

COURT

The City is thrilled to have assisted in the initial planning with Grand Traverse County on their new Fitness Court near the 10th Trailhead. The Fitness Court is one of the many amenities along the Boardman Lake Loop! 

Fitness Courts are an  open-air wellness center that allows users to leverage their own body weight to get a complete workout and adaptable for all fitness levels.

Join Grand Traverse County for a grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration on Tuesday, June 28th at 10 am at the trailhead near Oryana at 260 E. Tenth Street. 

TC STOPS FOR PEDESTRIANS

In 2011, the City passed a Local Ordinance that requires drivers to stop for pedestrians in marked and posted crosswalks.  As pedestrian traffic sees an uptick in the summer months, motorists should adhere to pedestrians at the many posted crosswalk locations throughout the City.

The City has signed pedestrian crossings throughout the Downtown area and beyond. Pedestrian actuated Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFB) are located along E. Eighth Street and most recently, installed at the TART crossing on Woodmere Avenue.

A HAWK signal (High-Intensity Activated crossWalK) is a traffic control device used to stop road traffic and allow pedestrians to cross safely. The purpose of a HAWK signal is to allow a protected pedestrian crossings, stopping vehicular traffic only as needed. The HAWK beacon is a type of traffic control alternative to traffic control signals and/or where an intersection does not meet traffic signal warrants. With full support of the City, MDOT installed HAWK signals along the Grandview Parkway in 2019.

Keep an eye out for these crossing and stop for pedestrians for the safety of all in or community!
