UTILITY BILL SEPARATION

COMING DECEMBER 2022

ONE BILL BECOMES TWO

Going into effect with the December 2022 billing cycle, utility customers with the City of Traverse City will receive a water/sewer bill from the City and an electric and TCLPfiber (for those who have subscribed) bill from Traverse City Light & Power. The current bill that contains all utilities on one, will become two.

Both entities are upgrading to new utility billing systems with increased user-friendly customer portals and service offerings. The separation of the billing systems will create operational efficiencies and ease of the customer’s ability to read and understand their utility usage.

In Person Payments

Payments may be made at each respective location, i.e. City of Traverse City Treasurer office (400 Boardman Avenue) and TCLP Service Center (1131 Hastings Street). Each location will continue to have drop box.

Payment by Mail

Payments will need to be separate and directed to each respective location.

Automatic Payment

Customers that currently are on the automatic payment program will continue. However, customers will need to re-enroll in both the City customer portal and TCLP’s customer portal.

The first cycle of separated utility bills will come in the mail for all customers. There will be no electronic statements. Instructions will be included on how to read your bill as well as how to enroll in the new customer portals.

FIRST TIME VOTER STICKER DESIGN CONTEST WINNERS

Following in the footsteps of the ‘I Voted’ and ‘Future Voter’ Sticker Design Contests, the City recently hosted an exciting creative challenge by seeking designs for its ‘First Time Voter’ stickers.

The Contest was open to residents in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Antrim, or Kalkaska counties, including 9th – 12th grade students. Nearly 30 design submissions were received and a panel of judges narrowed the field to six finalists for a public vote. The public vote to select three winners of the finalists ran October 2 - 9, 2022.

Nearly 450 votes were received through the public voting process. The designs with the most votes were created by Morgan Orth, Amanda Campo, and Connor Primeau. Each winner will be honored with a $100 prize.

TWO WAY

STATE STREET PROPOSED

The City Commission will consider a recommendation from the DDA to convert State Street, Pine Street, and Boardman Avenue, to a two-way traffic circulation conversation as a two year pilot at their meeting on Monday, October 17th.

As part of the proposed pilot the DDA is prepared to continue to monitor key metrics for evaluation of the pilot two-way study.

In reconsidering the circulation pattern of several of its downtown streets, especially as the role of automobiles and pedestrians in downtowns have evolved in recent years, the  DDA engaged a consultant to investigate and study downtown circulation and the feasibility of potentially converting one-way streets in downtown to two-way operation.
