AUGUST 2ND PRIMARY ELECTION

VOTE!  IT'S YOUR CIVIC DUTY!

The Statewide Primary Election is on Tuesday, August 2nd. Voting ensures representation on the local, state, and federal level. Even the smallest of elections can have a big impact for the future. You can register to vote up to and even on Election Day. It's your right!

Primary Election

The August 2, 2022 election is a statewide primary where you vote for the candidates that will be placed on the ballot for the general election in November.

Voters should be aware that a statewide primary election does not allow for voting of candidates in opposite political parties, or in other words, only one side of the ballot can be voted. Please read carefully when reviewing your ballot to avoid errors.

Saturday Hours

The City Clerk's Office will be open 8 am - 4 pm on Saturday, July 30th for election purposes.

Absentee Voting

It was recommended that City voters send their absentee ballot in the mail by July 18 to ensure it arrives in time for the August 2nd primary election. After July 18th, submit your absentee ballot at the City Clerk's Office or the red drop box at the Governmental Center.

You can track your ballot online to ensure that it was received.

Track your Ballot!

Voting Precincts

Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm. By state law, if you are in line at your polling place by 8 pm, you have a right to cast your ballot.

THREE WAY STOP COMING TO SLABTOWN

A new three way stop will be installed in the Slabtown Neighborhood at the corner of Madison and Wayne Streets.

Thank you to this citizen lead effort. Residents of the Slabtown neighborhood approached the City requesting the additional stop signs due to increased traffic and safety concerns. After a traffic study conducted by the City's Engineering Department, a Safe Routes to School analysis, and review from the City's Traffic Committee, the addition of two stops signs at the intersection was approved.

The installation of the signage is anticipated for Tuesday, August 2nd.

TEEN LEADERS OUTSIDE IN THE WOODS

The City's Human Rights Commission in collaboration with We Fight for Northern Michigan’s Youth Mental Health (an initiative of social change agency Good Works Lab) is hosting a series of summertime hikes for Traverse City’s young leaders.

Students ages 13-18 are welcome to join We Fight’s groups, led by local Traverse City community leaders, to discuss leadership, wellness, and ways they can take action in their local community.

The hikes will take place every Sunday in August from 7-8pm, at the City of Traverse City’s parks on August 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.

MEET THE CITY'S SUMMER PLANNING INTERN

Jessie Williams, our summer Planning Intern, is a 2022 graduate of the University of Michigan's Program in the Environment, with a specialization in Urban Planning and Transportation Networks. In the fall, she will be returning to UM for a dual JD and Master's degree program with the Law School and School for Environment and Sustainability, where she plans to concentrate in land use and zoning law.

In addition to Jessie's work in Planning, she serves as a steering committee and board member at nonprofit Common Cycle in Ann Arbor, works in logistics and public relations with Traverse City social change agency Good Works Lab, and writes for the Record-Eagle's magazine division. She is excited to be here this summer, and grateful for the opportunity to have learned so much already!

The City is thrilled to have Jessie on board this summer! Be sure to give her a warm welcome when she is out and about in the City!
