FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

OPEN HOUSE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15TH

Fire Prevention Week is October 9 - 15th. This year’s FPW campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape”, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.

Make a Plan

It is important for everyone to plan and practice a home fire escape. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Given that every home is different, every home fire escape plan will also be different. Be sure to have a plan for everyone in the home. Children, older adults, and people with disabilities may need assistance to wake up and get out. Make sure that someone will help them!

You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.

Open House

Celebrate Fire Prevention Week at TCFD's annual Open House on Saturday, October 15 from 11am - 3 pm at Fire Station 01 on Front Street. TCFD welcomes visitors of all ages to come see their Fire Station and Apparatus, and meet their local fire fighters!

This is a free event open to the public. Activities will include an obstacle course for our junior fire fighters, turnout gear to try on for all ages, a power line safety trailer with TCLP staff, a boater safety exhibit with the Coast Guard, visits with TCPD staff, fire extinguisher training, and much more.

LOOSE LEAF PICK UP

BEGINS OCTOBER 17TH

The Fall Loose Leaf Pick Up will begin October 17th. Due to weather and leaf fall variables, no specific pickup dates are scheduled.

Leaf Pick Up will begin in City neighborhoods on the west side and moving eastward, over a period of 5 to 7 weekdays, and then will return to the west side to repeat the process.

Leaves should be raked out in front of your house for pick up as promptly as possible. Feel free to rake and pile leaves on the tree lawn prior to October 17th. Leaves must be kept off the street until October 13th.

Please note that brush is not picked up during the Fall Loose Leaf Pick Up Program.

MASTER PLAN SURVEY

CLOSES OCTOBER 9TH

The City, with the participation of the community, has embarked on the exciting process of rewriting its Master Plan, a document that guides policy to help create a vision of what the future will look like in relation to land use development and preservation.

As an initial step to shape the conversation for the Master Plan Rewrite and Mobility Action Plan projects is a community survey running now through October 9th.

The City is actively targeting all ages to participate in this process and share YOUR IDEAS. This is includes area youth, they are the future after all! Please share with your family and friends!

FIRST TIME VOTER STICKER DESIGN FINALISTS

PUBLIC VOTE THROUGH OCTOBER 9TH

The City recently hosted an exciting creative challenge by seeking designs for its “First Time Voter” stickers. The City Clerk’s Office launched the contest to search for a new, unique design to inspire first time voters and increase engagement. Three winning designs will be printed as stickers and distributed on Election Day.

Nearly 30 design submissions were received and a panel of judges narrowed the field to six finalists for a public vote. The public vote to select the three winners of the six finalists will run October 2 - 9, 2022. The winning designs will receive $100 each and be announced at the October 10, 2022 City Commission Meeting.

Kudos to the City's DPS crew, who repaired the brick ribbon along the sidewalks in Downtown TC this summer.

DID YOU KNOW....

The City is active in generating compost and mulch as a result of our Leaf & Brush Pick Up Program and the Christmas Tree Drop Off Program.

The City’s Loose Leaf Pick Up program prevents leaves from winding up in a landfill and catch basins. The leaves are turned into rich screened topsoil and used by the Parks Division for flower beds! In 2021, 7620 yards of compacted leaves were picked up!
