Fire Prevention Week is October 9 - 15th. This year’s FPW campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape”, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.
Make a Plan
It is important for everyone to plan and practice a home fire escape. Everyone needs to be prepared in advance, so they know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Given that every home is different, every home fire escape plan will also be different. Be sure to have a plan for everyone in the home. Children, older adults, and people with disabilities may need assistance to wake up and get out. Make sure that someone will help them!
You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.
Open House
Celebrate Fire Prevention Week at TCFD's annual Open House on Saturday, October 15 from 11am - 3 pm at Fire Station 01 on Front Street. TCFD welcomes visitors of all ages to come see their Fire Station and Apparatus, and meet their local fire fighters!
This is a free event open to the public. Activities will include an obstacle course for our junior fire fighters, turnout gear to try on for all ages, a power line safety trailer with TCLP staff, a boater safety exhibit with the Coast Guard, visits with TCPD staff, fire extinguisher training, and much more.
