Summertime is Here!
A message from Rev. Jenn
Summer has definitely arrived! Itʻs amazing how within one or two weeks, the shift to summer happens. Here in Hawaiʻi nei we may not have the differences in temperature or light that some places on the continent have, yet there are other ways to know that summer has arrived. Kids and parents are released from the intensity of the school day schedule. In Honolulu, the traffic pressure lessens and we find ourselves arriving at our destination a little more quickly and with a little less stress.
How do you mark the summer season? Maybe you have travel planned. Perhaps you like to stay put and enjoy all of the blessings that Hawaiʻi has for us during this time of year: beautiful hikes, lovely beaches and shoreline drives, sweet mangos, later sunsets. However summer shows up for you, we pray that you will have some blessed “down time” so you can rejuvenate and refresh.
At Holy Nativity, the schoolʻs summer program has started, basketball camp is running in the gymnasium, and the thrift shop continues to provide great bargains for our community. In church, our choir is taking a summer break and we have planned some special music with our interim musician, Marlene Patton. Itʻs an opportunity to share the diverse musical and other artistic gifts of our community. Music is one way that people encounter the Divine; it can provide space for people to feel Godʻs presence near, and it can open up space in our hearts as we listen. Whether you are the one playing or singing, or the one listening, we hope that this summer will be a time of holy encounter for you at Holy Nativity.
Consider asking a friend to join you this summer, to share in worship, community, and fellowship. We look forward to worshiping together!

"Hind-Clark Dairy Farm", William Henry Hilliard 1836-1905
Robert Louis Stevenson was here in Hawaii for five months in 1890. Imagine him travelling around our island and seeing some dairy cows where our church stands today.
The church, of course, has
been here only 75 years and our campaign to raise money for its future is coming to a close this month; please make a gift today.
The Cow
by Robert Louis Stevenson
The friendly cow all red and white,
I love with all my heart:
She gives me cream with all her might,
To eat with apple tart.
She wanders lowing here and there,
And yet she cannot stray,
All in the pleasant open air,
The pleasant light of day;
And blown by all the winds that pass
And wet with all the showers,
She walks among the meadow grass
And eats the meadow flowers.
