Camp Mokule'ia with Rev. Jenn
Rev. Jenn spent the week of July 7 - July 11 at Camp Mokuleʻia with several campers from Holy Nativity Church and School.
The theme for the week was “What’s in a Name?” and we learned about different biblical characters’ names, and how God knew them and called each of them.
Each day we started with singing and a short introduction to the day’s theme by a chaplain. Days were full of activities and always ended with singing and praying. Oh, and also milk and cookies!
The week had many exciting moments including: Wacky Water Wednesday fun for the Elementary Camp, a Challenge Course (high ropes course) and a hike out to Kaʻena Point for a swim and picnic for the Middle School Camp, and a fun-filled last evening with a campfire, silly camp songs, and sʻmores.
Camp Mokuleʻia was founded just two years before Holy Nativity Church and School, 77 years ago, and our community has sent many young people there, where they strengthened their relationship with our loving God.
If you ever had a Camp Mokuleʻia experience for which you are thankful, consider making a donation to the camp in gratitude for that experience!

Join Us in Celebrating 50 Years of Women’s Ordination.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first of ordination of women as priests in The Episcopal Church on July 29, 1974. The journey towards ordination required a brave and visionary group of women and their allies to stand firmly in their beliefs and their faith, following the Holy Spirit where it led them.
Join us for celebrations in-person and online, including a Festival Holy Eucharist on Sunday, July 28, at 11:15 am, with guest preacher the Right Reverend Mary Glasspool, Assistant Bishop, Episcopal Dioceses of New York, followed by a special screening of The Philadelphia Eleven.

Fun Facts about Summer!
-
Popsicles were invented by accident! Eleven-year-old Frank Epperson inadvertently created the popsicle in 1905 by leaving his soda with a stirring stick outside on his porch overnight. The cold night air froze the soda and stick. Years later, the name popsicle was created by Frank’s own kids who called his invention “Pop’s ‘sicle.” Frank liked the name so much, he patented it in 1923.
-
In 1816, there was no summer. The volcanic eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia blocked out the atmosphere with dust, ash and sulfur oxide. The event caused a significant drop in global temperatures resulting in winter-like climates.
- The Eiffel Tower grows in the summer! The heat expands the iron of the Eiffel Tower causing it to grow 6 inches during the summer!
-
Watermelon is a vegetable and not a fruit and, in fact, it is summer’s most popular vegetable. It is part of the cucumber, pumpkin, and squash family.
