Note from Ellen

Dear Friends,

This coming weekend, I will join a group of FPC women at the annual Women’s Connection Conference in Montreat ( I am thrilled to have a chance to hear Kate Bowler speak on Saturday night, and I am honored and humbled to be serving as the preacher for the conference at worship on Friday night and Sunday morning.

Here at FPC on Sunday morning, you will have the opportunity to worship with two pastors who claim this congregation as their home church. George Slaton will preach and lead worship alongside Casey Aldridge. It will be a great Sunday!

Grace and peace,

Join the Lunch Bunch for a Tour of a Historic House and a Nice Lunch

With so much new construction everywhere, we often wonder, “Does anybody care about the old any more?”  Church members, Mark and William Niblock had to consider this when they developed their Olde Homestead subdivision and their decision was to rescue and preserve the 200 year old Moss-Morris House sitting right in the middle of their property. William Niblock will be our guide as he shows us the result. The house features much of the original woodwork and hearths and they have found a unique way to make the framing elements visible so today’s visitors can appreciate how the house was built in the early 1800’s.

We will meet at Cabarrus Country Club for Dutch treat lunch off of the Grill menu on Wednesday, August 16, at 12 noon before joining William at the house on 12th Fairway (second left after the Country Club entrance on the left off of Weddington Road.

* The house is on a small hill with steps to get in (about 4 at the side door and 7 at the front door. There is comfortable seating on the first floor for those who do not wish to go upstairs.

**Lunch Bunch usually meets on the 4th Wednesday but the date has been changed for August due to a scheduling conflict.

All are welcome. Make your reservation early by calling the Church Reservation Line 24/7 at 704-788-2100 and choosing option 7 by August 14.

Friends Empowering Haiti, (FEH), is currently extremely low in funds for unrestricted, school operations, and school food. FEH can only meet half of the requests for this month unless FEH receives substantial new donations in the next 30 days. They may be unable to fund any of the requests for August for school operations and school food. This means they may not be able to feed and educate our sponsored children next month.

Please prayerfully consider an extra donation to Friends Empowering Haiti, preferably towards unrestricted funds or for school operations, or school food. Your help for this temporary shortfall is much needed and greatly appreciated.

Donations can be made online at

or with a check made out to Friends Empowering Haiti and mailed to:

Blessing of the Backpacks

We were happy to see so many of our friends in worship on Sunday. We are praying for a wonderful school year for everyone – students, teachers, parents, staff, and volunteers. The Commons has Space and Resources for Kids

If you haven't already introduced the children in your life to the Commons, hopefully you will be able to do so before summer winds down... or even during open hours this fall. There is a special area for young ones, and many of the stations may also appeal to them and provide chances to talk about growing and knowing God, especially through prayer.

Feel free to drop by on Wednesdays 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM or Saturdays 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

 Hope to see you there!!

August drop off days for the mission sale

Two more opportunities to bring us your treasures in August: 15th and 29th from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM to the ramp of the Will Young Building. We appreciate having donations be clean and in working order.

If those times are not convenient for you, items can be left on the wire racks outside of room 306 in the Will Young Building.

It’s too hot for cleaning attics now, but be thinking ahead to September when it is a little cooler and you can find those items you would like to bring in..

Have a friend, relative or neighbor who is downsizing? See what they might want to donate to our sale too!

This is our mission project that raises funds for Haiti through Friends Empowering Haiti.  Check with Gina (704) 794-2228, Carrie (704) 467-0962, Harriett Phillips, or Sallie Dotger if you have questions.
